Burton dies; rites set for retired minister Obituaries Retired Indiana journalist Floyd 'Slats' Logan dies Church in Jeffersonville for five years. He started his career at Second Baptist Church. Franklin, where he was pastor for about a year.

He also was a member of Mount Paran Baptist Church In Indianapolis. Rev. Burton had held various district and state church offices. He had been chairman of the State Mission Board, second vice president of the Indiana State Missionary Baptist Convention and chairman of Its benefit board, and had been treasurer of the Indiana State Baptist Sunday School and Baptist Training Union Congress. He received his bachelor's degree from Simmons University In Louisville, and had attended Indiana University at Jeffersonville.

He re-reived an honorary doctorate of divinity from Central Theological Seminary. He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving as an assistant chaplain. Survivors: wife, Arwllda Young Burton: daughters, Gwendolyn Howard and Lloyce Jefferson: son, Donald Burton: sisters. Afterward, while living In Indiana-polls, he reviewed books occasionally for The Indianapolis News. Mr. Logan served on the Board of Governors of the Indianapolis Press Club from 1960-62; was president of the Indiana Department of the National Public Relations Committee of the Reserve Officers Association; and had been president of the Indianapolis Service Club and Indianapolis Literary Club.

He also was a member of the Indianapolis Public Relations Society, Downtown Kiwanis Club, Chicago Press Club, and Indianapolis Art Museum. While at the Ncws-Sentlnrl, he helped form the Fort Wayne Fine Arts Foundation. He was a captain In the Army Air Forces during World War II and was In the Army Reserve from 1946-56. He graduated from Indiana University In 1926 and was a member of the school's Alumni Association and Emeritus Club. Services will be at 10 a.m.

Wilma Jean Wamsley; six grandchldlren. Former council candidate Oliver W. Duncan dies Oliver W. Duncan. 60, a lifelong Indianapolis resident who last month ran for City-Council Council as a Democrat, died Monday in Methodist Hospital.

Mr. Duncan ran for the District 23 council seat, losing to Republican two-term Incumbent Stanley P. Strader by 300 votes out of about 3.600 cast. For 35 years, he had been a superlntendant at Chrysler retiring In 1982. He was an Army veteran of World War II and attended Indiana University-Purdue University at Indianapolis.
