Mrs. Betty Likens Matheson, mother of Sylvia Likens, returned to the witness stand yesterday to complete tesi-mony she started on Wednesday.

SHE acknowledged that she was in jail charged with shoplifting the weekend before she and her first husband placed Sylvia Likens and another daughter in the Baniszewski home for board and keep. Mrs. Matheson and her first husband, at that time were traveling with a carnival. Mrs. Matheson testified that she had visited her daughters two weeks before the death and that Sylvia appeared conviction in Marion County for murder but recently were granted a new trial on grounds a prejudicial atmosphere ex isted during the first trial.
