Banks based his opinion on his long driving career plus personal observation of the 21 I V- 1 way in Florida. He said that another longtime driver, Paul Russo, penKpd the figure even higher. Russo, who is likely to be one of the first drivers to test the Daytona estimated a lap will be turned at 1 S2 miles an hour.

BANKS MADE his prediction at a press conference in the Indianapolis Athletic Club, called to outline the three-race series set by USAC for Day. tona Beach Saturday and Sunday. April 4 and 5. The predictions broached the possibility that the world's closed-course record of 1S2-plus set by Sam Hanks at the Chelsea (Mich.) Chrysler Proving Grounds might be eclipsed at Daytona. night, taking on the Toledo Mereurys in the Sports Arena. Max Silverman's skaters can hardly afford to lose to the fifth-place Mereurys since Toledo has designs on fourth-place and a possible playoff berth. The Chiefs front Doug Baldwin's club by nine points. Indianapolis hasn't beaten the Mereurys since Jan. 7 when a 7-1 decision was posted In the Hoosier city.

Indianapolis, only four points out of third, visits Troy's Bruins tomorrow and moves over to Louisville day afternoon. Florida facility, said inspection indicated that much thought had been given to safety precautions on the new track, which has banks of 31 degrees on the turns and has guard rails of durable steel built perpendicular to the track. GEORGE M. OBER, vice-president of USAC and head of the safety committee, has been invited to attend the race with a view to lending added safety to other tracks. Although Daytona Beach is the "dream track" of NASCAR President Bill France, the week end of racing doesn't necessarily signal a honeymoon between USAC and NASCAR.

Banks and BinforJ made it clear they were dealing with France in his role as president of the Daytona Beach track, not as NASCAR chief. They also held out against France's wish to run exhibitions with the Speedway cars on the days of bg NASCAR races in February. Instead, they agreed to hol.I qualifications March 2H and 2') and April 2 for the champion ship and Formula Libre races and April 1 and 3 for th? sports car race as a means of stimulating attendance. JR. Slcvensons Nol Certified Bv Seymour Although a Jackson County fudge says they're eligible, Billy Joe and Frank Stevenson were not included on the list of players certified bv Seymour School fur the state high school basketball tourney. The Seymour entry list submitted yesterday to the IIISAA confirmed earlier statements by principal Joseph N. Cull and Coach Bub Loch-mueller that it's too late in the season to fit the Stevenson brothers into the team. THE TALL brothers had been ruled permanently ineligible by the Indiana High School Athletic Assn.

board of control Oct. 4 on grounds that undue influence was used to get their family to move from Jopp.i, HI. Circuit Judge John M. Lewis knocked out that ban last wei'k. ISHAA Commissioner L.

V. Phillips has asked that the hearing on a permanent injunction be moved outside Jackson County. But lawyers for the parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Stevenson, opposed that motion, saying they had no! been notified properly.

Judge Lewis said he'll give Phillips time for a countermove, since the case could have far-reaching effects on the IlLSAA's rule making authority. The Seymour tournament entry arrived at the IIISAA office six days ahead of the filing deadline, which comes at 4 m. CST next Wednesday. Sectional tournaments start Feb. 25.
