The Jet Age is here. The West Coast of Florida is practically in your own backyard. It's a sun-worshipper's paradise what with its necklace of beaches from Clearwater to St. Petersburg. But that's just half the story.

In St. Pete you can re-live the notorious mutiny aboard a replica of the "Bounty." Then there's the old Spanish City of Ybor within the city of Tampa. And in Sarasota you'll find a superb collection of Baroque paintings. Your pick of 15 hotels. Cost: from $133.99 per person including round trip excursion fare 8 days, 7 nights.

The script is loaded with the kind of plot twists and contrivances that make this sort of show palatable, and Ricardo Montalban gives his customary competent performance as the detective. Like most of his TV film counterparts, he has a sharp comment at the ready for any situation when he starts out to discover who murdered an old friend, and ends up involved with a hot-headed billionaire (Pat Hingle), his limited nature of the closed-circuit theater TV business. Burch thinks. "Baseball, football and soccer have all been telecast on commercial TV, and they're out People mention Broadway theater stuff, but I doubt it The theater people dont want to kill a show on the road." As for the coverage itself, Burch will add a blimp camera this year for an over-all view of the track. Charlie Brock-man will remain as chief an nouncer, and Burch again will have the unenviable task of watching 14 monitors when May 30 arrives.

"ITS A MONSTER to he sighed. Golf, football, you can somewhat control the event. But you can't tell Tony Hulman to make the cars go faster because you've only got three minutes of satellite left." The personaWe producer who has handled Big Three Golf, Tennesse Ernie and George Gobel's shows, is married to one of the. King Sisters, Vi, and thinks nothing of having 48 rambunc-tions and attractive Kings for Thanksgiving dinner. Fans of the sister's shortlived show which was a victim of Jackie Gleason, will be pleased to know that Burch will produce five specials featuring the clan for syndication next season.

The first will be shown at Thanksgiving. ALTHOUGH He maintains he is a "500" fan now, Burch admits he was not at all enthusiastic about taking on his present job. "You've got to be able to find someone who likes racing," he complained at the time. "We're not asking you to like it. We're paying you to do it," was the terse reply.

Hawaii remains uncertain with the cost of dipping down from the satellite being under consideration. "Use of the Lani Bird will cost something near $30,000," Burch declared, "Early Bird is less expensive, roughly half that, because the transmission distance is less." Last year's telecast was well received in Europe, Burch em phasized, being aired on home TV in Germany, and on part pay and part theater TV in Great Britain. France, Italy and Yugoslavia rounded out the European coverage, with no problems in going into the latter. DOMESTICALLY, MCA will hook up from 165 to 170 theaters and other sites around the country, roughly the same number as last year.

The program again will be in black and white because too few theaters have color equip-I ment, but Burch is hoping for next year. WEATHER OR By JULIA 1NMAN A TELECAST few Hoosiers will see will approach "global TV" as nearly as the present television facilities allow. The program, of course, is the closed circuit telecast of the 500-Mile Race which is blacked out within a 200 mile radius of Indianapolis. Chicago and St.

Louis will be the near est points. The "Indy 500" traveled to Europe last year via Early Bird satellite and now arrangements have been made to send it across the Pacific via the new Lani Bird satellite, according to producer-director Bill Burch. In Japan, the telecast will be beamed over the Japanese TV network rather than to theaters. The chain is sending its own announcer here to "translate" the coverage. 7 Music Corporation of Amer ica has reserved both Early Bird and Lani Bird for roughly three hours, and the overseas telecast will consist of an hour-long digest of the race followed by two hours of live coverage, Buroh said.

LAST YEAR'S accident at the track extended the time of the race and forced Burch to request more satellite time, which was granted. In addition to Japan, the telecast may be beamed to Australia and New Zealand if permission is granted to use was more severe.
