THE POST-STANDARD 22 Mar. 30, 1967 Assembly OKs Gallivan Bill On Licenses A A Legislation which would authorize the state motor vehicle commis- sioner to issue a temporary "employment" license to a person whose driving license been suspended or revoked for violation of the compulsory insurance law was approved by the Assembly Tuesday. It was sponsored by Assemblyman Mortimer P. Gallivan, Syracuse Democrat. Gallivan noted that frequently a person, by oversight or mistake, may let his compulsory motor vehicle insurance policy lapse.

Frequently the person depends on driving for his livelihood. The employment i would be issued for the sole purpose of enabling the person to drive during the hours he had to do so to conduct his business or perform the duties for whicfr he was hired. Before obtaining the license he would have to show proof that he had settled all claims that might have arisen from his original arrest for driving without insurance. The employment license would be issued for a period of six months. It could be revoked if the licensee committed a moving violation during the six months, but if he kept his record clear he could regain his unrestricted operator's chauffeur's license at the end of the six months period.

The measure now goes to the Senate.
