A member of Irvington Methodist Church here, he attended Butler University and was a member of Phi Delta Theta social fraternity. Survivors include the widow, Mrs. Marian Kurfiss; his mother, Mrs. Rebecca Kurfiss, and two sons, John F. Kurfiss III and David Kurfiss, all of Alexandria.

Mrs. Adeline Mikels services for Mrs. Adeline W. Mikels, 64 years old, 1415 North Dearborn Street, will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday in Harry W.

Moore Peace Chapel, with burial in Memorial Park Cemetery. Mrs. Mikels died Friday in Methodist Hospital. Born in Miami County, she lived in Indianapolis 30 years and was employed seven years in the receiving department of H. P.

Wasson and Company. She was a member of Ladies of the Moose. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Alice J. Elfers; a son, Meredith E.

Mikels, and two sisters, Mrs. Minerva Kelley and Mrs. Mabel Benge, all of Everitt Williams of BurlingIndianapolis: four brothers, ton. Ross Williams of Kokomo, Clarence Williams of Greentown, and Russell Williams of Hamilton, and seven grandchildren. W.

H. Schreiner William H. Schreiner, 55 years old, a veteran of World War died yesterday in his home at 2608 East North Street. He was born at Hammond and resided in Indianapolis 45 years. For the last five years he was employed as a butcher by the Straub and Smith Packing Company.

Earlier he was employed for 12 years by the Hoosier Abattoir. He was a member of St. Philip Neri Catholic Church and the Holy Name Society. Funeral services will be at 8:15 a.m. Wednesday in the George W.

Usher Funeral Home and at 9 a.m. in St. Philip Neri Church, Survivors include his mother, Mrs. Olive Schaedel; a sister, Mrs. Edward Gaughan, and five brothers, Joseph, Robert, Thomas, Emil and Granvill Schaedel, all of Indianapolis.

Mrs. Clara Brewer Funeral services for Mrs. Clara E. Brewer, 80 years old, 2140 Central Avenue, who died Friday in a local nursing home, will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Flanner and Buchanan Fall Creek Mortuary, Graveside rites and burial will be at 11 a.m., CST, in Oak Hill Cemetery at Crawfordsville.

Mrs. Brewer was born at Alamo and lived in Indianapolis 25 years. She was a memher of the Third Christian Church. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Robert B.

Martin of Greenfield; a son, Robert R. Clark, of Beaumont, three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Mrs. Mabel Prasuhn Mrs. Mabel Prasuhn, 70 years old, died yesterday in her home at 1241 Hiatt Street.

Born at Royalton, Mrs. Prasuhn lived most of her life in Indianapolis. She was a member of Blaine Avenue Methodist Church and Chapter No. 393, Order of Eastern Star. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m.

Monday in Beanblossom Mortuary, with burial in Washington Park Cemetery, Survivors include a son, Lawrence Prasuhn; a brother, Roy Lacey; four sisters, Mrs. Bertha Young, Mrs. Hazel Chapman, Mrs. Fay Gaulden and Mrs. Nellie Bidito, all of Indianapolis, and one grandchild.

Builders Pick New Officers At Parley John Phrommer of Hammond was elected president of the Home Builders Association of Indiana last night at the association's annual convention in the Severin Hotel. Other new officers include Roy McNett of Fort Wayne, Edward Henderlong of Crown Point, Walter Leonard of Cambridge City, Albert Thompson of Indianapolis and William Holz of New Albany, all regional vice- presidents; Mac McCracken 01 South Bend, secretary, and Marten Blunck of Indianapolis, treasurer. Approximately 250 builders from throughout Indiana are attending the convention which continues through today and is being held in conjunction with an exhibition of building products in the Rainbow Room of the Severin. Today's main event will be a luncheon at 12:30 p.m. featuring a skit presented by an appliance manufacturing firm.

Freihofer Dies; Ran Bakery Many Years Walter Brown Freihofer, operator of the Freihofer Baking Company here from 1924 until 1941, died yesterday in his home at 3360 Meadows Court, Apt. B2. He was 65 years old. Born at Philadelphia, Mr.

Freihofer was civilian consultant in the Office of the Quartermaster General of the War Department at Washington and in China during World War II. He formerly headed the operations here of the Freihofer firm, which now has plants in several eastern cities. Since 1945, he had served as a consultant to numerous firms in the baking industry. Merrie Joanne Porter, 26-year-old mother of four children, died Friday night in Reid Memorial Hospital at Richmond after being stricken by a sudden illness. A medical inquiry was under way last night in an effort to determine the nature of the ailment that claimed her life in less than 1 12 hours. MRS PORTER was the wife of Dr. George Porter, a Richmond physician. She formerly lived in Indianapolis, Lebanon and Noblesville.

She was brought up in Indianapolis, in the home of Wayfarer Works Hard At Getting Himself Arrested It might never have happened if Raymond H. Dicks hadn't been so persistent. Irvin R. Wilkerson said he was getting ready to order in the Hollyoke Restaurant at 3901 East Washington Street last night when Dicks walked in, poked (him in the back and started a conversation. Wilkerson didn't want to talk.

"This .45 in my belt's hurting me." said the 51- year-old Dicks. Wilkerson searched him. There was: no gun. Wilkerson left. He drove to the Bradley Barbecue, 3840 East Washington Street.

Soon a figure that looked familiar came walking along. He stopped at the rear of Wilkerson's car. It was Dicks. Wilkerson got out and announced that he was an off-duty. policeman.

Dicks, who said he lived at 3714 East Washington Street, countered that he was a Civil Defense policeman. Wilkerson charged him with drunkenness and disorderly conduct and slated him to appear tomorrow in Municipal Court. Awards, Concert Close Scout Fair Awarding of special streamers and a concert by the 150- piece Boy Scout band last night closed the three-day Boy Scout Fair in the Manufacturer's Building at the State Fairgrounds. An estimated 35,000 attended the exhibition. The streamers were given to Cub packs, Scout troops and Explorer troops which participated.

The son of Harry M. Bitner 7298 North Pennsylvania Street, former owner of WFBM-TV and radio, Mr. Bitner was overcome fatally by carbon monoxide while work- ing on a sports car. He was staying at the home of his mother and stepfather, Mr. and Mrs.

Charles M. DeMarco. Survivors besides the parents, are a sister, Miss Margaret A. Bitner, and two broth- ers, John H. Bitner and Peter J.

Bitner, all of Indianapolis; the maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Howard J. Eshelman of Lancaster, and the paternal grandfather, Harry M. Bitner 'of Princeton, N.J., former editor and publisher of the Pittsburgh (Pa.) Sun-Telegraph.

Byron McGuire Westfield. Ind. for Byron McGuire, 60 years old, a brick mason, will be held at 2 p.m. Monday in the McMullan Funeral Home at Westfield with burial in Summit Lawn Cemetery. Mr.

McGuire died Friday in his home near Westfield. He was past of the Westfield Masonic Lodge and a member of the Westfield Friends Church and Local 8, Brick and Stone Masons Union, at Anderson. Survivors include the widow, Mrs. Bernice McGuire; two sons, Leslie and Jerry McGuire, and a daughter, Mrs. Marilyn Harkness, all of Westfield, and four grandchildren.

Wilbur S. Vance Wilbur S. Vance, 71 years old, 126 South Illinois Street, died yesterday in Methodist Hospital. A lifelong resident of Indianapolis, Mr. Vance was employed many years as an elevator operator in several downtown buildings, including the Bankers Trust Building.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Dorsey East New York Funeral Home, with burial in Crown Hill Cemetery. Surviving is a brother, the Rev. Howard E. Vance, retired Baptist minister now associated with Wheeler Mission.

Charles William Kruse Funeral services for Charles William Kruse, 76 years old, who died Friday in his home at 4027 East New York Street, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday in Dorsey East New York Street Funeral Home, with burial in Memorial Park Cemetery. Born at Columbus, Mr. Kruse lived in Indianapolis 65 years and was employed 48 years in the Indianapolis Stock Yards before retiring in 1949. Survivors include the widow, Edna Kruse; a daughter, Mrs.

Charles Lowther of Lafayette, three grandchildren and wo -grandchildren. Mrs. Ethyl Serafin Funeral services for Mrs. Ethyl McDonelth Serafin, 66 years old, 1209 North Sheffield Avenue, will be held at 9 a.m. Monday at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church, with burial in Holy Cross Cemetery.

She died Firday at Marion County General Hospital. Born at Wilmington, 0., Mrs. Serafin had lived in Indianapolis 35 years. The body will be at the Stuart Mortuary after 11 a.m. today.

Rickard, 2143 North Delaware Street, was driving south on Central Avenue when his car collided with an auto driven west on 23d Street by Mrs. Eileen Van Meter, 40, R.R. 1, Box 1010, police said. Rickard's car slammed against a parked car and the Van Meter car jumped a curb and crashed through a hedge, police said. Mrs.

Van Meter was treated at St. Vincent's and released. Dennis L. Belk Dies Of Injuries Dennis L. Belk, 50 years old, Princeton, assistant division engineer of the Southern Railway, died yesterday of injuries suffered when he fell under a train near Mount Vernon, Ill.

Belk lost both legs and suffered arm and shoulder injurles in the accident Friday. Police said Belk was supervising a crew doing roadbed work when he tripped on rocks and fell under the wheels of a -moving diesel unit. She was married to Dr. Porter Dec. 6, 1953, in a ceremony in Christ Episcopal Church Cathedral on Monument Circle in Indianapolis. She was a member of the church. The couple had moved to Richmond July 1.

Friends may call after 2 p.m. today in the Russell and Hitch Funeral Home and Lebanon. FUNERAL services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in the Episcopal Church at Lebanon. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery there.

Bandits Take $494 At Store Two bandits escaped from the Empire Trailer Parts and Supply Company, 5444 West Washington Street, yesterday with $494 after binding the owner, Elmer A. Hunt, with bailing wire, he told police.
