Havre Daily News, Friday Evening, December Daily News Want Ads Pay Death Brings Close To Colorful Career may santa bring you joys galore FARMER'S INSURANCE GROUP Robert "Bob" Stirling, 83, who was one of the oldest working cowboys in Montana, died Thursday at a local hospital. Funeral services will be Tuesday, Dec. 26, at 2 p.m. at the Holland and Bonine Funeral Home. Bob Stirling was born June 9, 1884, in Edinburgh, Scotland.

The Stirlings had a ranch midway between Loma and Fort Benton. Following his formal education, Stirling rode for the Bill Embleton ranch at the age of 14, and later worked for the Kelly Ranch Company and on the Homer Sheppard ranch in Choteau County. He came to Hill County in 1917 to work on the O.

C. Sheppard P. T. Ranch north of Havre and for the past 25 or 30 years had worked on the Steve Boyce ranch in the Bear Paw Mountains. Stirling was honored early this summer at the Havre Roping Club rodeo held at the Hill County Fairgrounds.

Survivors include one sister, Mrs. Maggie Bannatyne of Dutton, and a sister-in-law, Mis. Frank Stirling of Havre. Several nieces and nephews also survive. A memorialtotheYellowstone Boys Ranch has been established by the family.

Victor Lamere from the Rocky Boy's Reservation, Chippewa Cree Tribe has completed the second phase of a three phase employment training program, supervised by the University of Utah and financed through the Office of Economic Opportunity. Lamere was chosen because he speaks both the white man and the Indian languages.

He is employed by the Community Action Program at the Rocky Boy's Reservation and is working with the Bureau of Indian Affairs Employment Staff at Rocky Boy and also the Montana State Employment service. The program is aimed as much at overcoming the prejudice reticence of Indians sometimes too bashful or weak in English to approach an employer. The counselor trainee will be able to get to the Indians on the grassroot level and will also be able to reach employers in service clubs, Jaycee meetings and in their places of business.
