Petersburg, (INS) Police reported yesterday that a Methodist minister shot and killed his wife and two young sons Christmas apparently in a mood of despondency over the failure of a charitable organization he founded. The bodies of Dr. H. San-ford Williams, 48 years old; his wife, Alice, 43, and their two children, Ward, 10, and Clarence, 9, were "discovered late yesterday in their home on St. Petersburg's south side.

All apparently had been shot in the head, police said. Dr. Williams, who last February organized the National Retirement Foundation, a group dedicated to problems of senior citizens, was found on the bathroom floor clad only in pajamas. Lying nearby was a .45 caliber pistol THE TWO BOYS, also dressed in pajamas, were found in their bedroom and the doctor's wife was found dead in her bed. In the house was a small, poorly decorated Christmas tree, under which lay two unopened Christmas gifts.

A cooked but uneaten turkey was found in the kitchen. These circumstances led police to believe the slayings occurred Christmas Eve.
