The cottage, which was once the home of Joseph Philbrock Webster, composer of the Civil War era, is maintained as a museum by the Walworlh County Historical Society.

Largest of the groups which came to see the authentic portrayal of antebellum life was composed of 5th and 6th graders from George Williams College, under the direction of Gordon Kaplan, director of outdoor education. The 280 children with the leaders also toured the historic one-room schoolhouse located on the Walworth County Fairgrounds. The purpose' of the tours was to extend classroom lectures pertaining to the subject, "How the Past Affects the Present." Webster House is located at 9 £. Rockwell St. here.

It is open to visitors 10a.m. to noon and 15 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday. It is closed Monday.

Mrs. Helen Kluge, curator, will arrange group tours by appointment. Assistant curator this year is Mrs. Bernice Clauer, Lake Geneva. Webster wrote hundreds of songs which were sung during the Civil War by both union and confederate sides.

Best known today is his ballad, "Lorena" which was part of the theme Walworth Fairgrounds Is Busy Between Fairs ELKHORN Walworth County Fairgrounds never rests between fairs. The items were the property of the late Irene Celia Norton, who inherited some of them from an original settler of Walworth County.
