Then errors by Buford and Smith allowed two more to register. Jones, whose bad throwing arm made him something of a defensive liability this season, turned in two brilliant defensive plays at first base as he had three assists. Don Buford robbed Gagliano of a hit in the sixth inning for another Tribe defensive gem.

Bill Wakefield, Bob Humphreys and John Kucks followed Riverboat Smith to the mound for Atlanta. The Crackers won the Governors' Cup in 1962. single and a double by Doug Clemens. In the fourth, the Tribe made Riverboat Smith the loser as if there was no tomorrow which there wasn't for the International League season. Deacon Jones started the frame with a double, the first Indianapolis safety.

Quickly it was followed by Koranda's run-scoring single, a bunt hit by Charlie Smith, a two-run single by Joyce and another tally-producing one-baser by Koranda. Errors by John Lewis and Gagliano also figured in the inning. Ramon and Jones singled in the ninth with the last Tribe Broad Ripple scored first on a 19-yard toss from quarterback Mike Perry to flanker back Ricky Lee in the first two minutes of the second quarter and it wasn't until late in the third period that Ripple spirit gave away to Tech's superior manpower. SWTVEL-HIPPED left half Eugene Akers scored twice on side-stepping runs of 84 yards in the third quarter and 30 in the fourth. Blocking back David Sexson gathered in two long touchdown passes from quarterback John Nell covering 49 yards in the Statistics TtcH I.

Kennedy had a 25-yard touchdown run nullified by clipping in the fourth quarter. Broad Ripple, a fine collection of juniors and sophomores who could go the rest of the way unbeaten, out-charged Tech in the 6-6 first half and would have made it even tougher except for a back injury to No. 1 halfback Bill Holton on the first series. Chicago (UPI) An eighth inning single by rookie John Boccabella scored Ron Santo from second base yesterday and gave the Chicago Cubs their first victory in five games, 3-2, over the Cincinnati Reds.

Boccabella's hit, his second in three official trips to the plate, broke a 2-2 tie and saddled Joe Nuxhall with his eight loss of the year. The win went to Lindy McDaniel, who took over for the Cubs in the seventh after starter Paul Toth sprained an ankle while running out a bunt. THE CUBS held a one-run edge over Nuxhall until the seventh when doubles by Eddie Kasko and Pete Rose tied the score. Earlier, Nuxhall drove in Cincinnati's first run, singling after walks to Bob Skinner and Kasko. Billy Williams drove in Chicago's first two runs, belting his 20th home run in the third inning and scoring Lou Brock with a sacrifice fly in the fifth.

Atlanta, Ga. (Spl.) Pennant-winning Indianapolis last night added the Governors' Cup to its International League laurels in its first year as a member of the circuit. Scoring seven runs in the fourth inning, the Indians drubbed Atlanta, 9-4, to win the best-of-seven series, four games to one. Five of the Tribe's tallies were unearned, including three of those in the fourth, as nine Indianapolis safeties were combined with three Atlanta errors. MIKE JOYCE limited the Crackers to six hits and two of the three runs in the ninth were unearned due to two mis-cues.

Jim Koranda batted over four markers for the Tribe, including three in the big inning. Indianapolis opened the scoring against Dick Hughes with a run in the first inning without getting a hit. Two walks, a wild pitch and Jack Kubiszyn's error with a double play in sight accounted for the run. Hughes lasted just one-third of an inning trying to pitch with a blistered finger.
