Credit squeeze behind slump? YORK (UPI) Tighter credit arid rising interest rates sent stocks broadly lower for the second straight "'session Wednesday in heavy trading. The Dow Jones industrial average, which plunged 15.02 points Tuesday, was off 7.25 points to 865.35 around 12:15 p.m. CDT. Tuesday's setback was the worst since the Dow fell 17.84 last Dec. 18.

The New York Stock Exchange index off 0.67 to 60.68 and the price of a -share was down 35 cents. Declines clobbered advances, 1,349 to 156, the 1,788 issues crossing the New York Stock Exchange tape. Brokers said the Federal Reserve was causing the selloff by tightening credit to stem inflation. This has forced interest rates to rise to record levels and there is no end in sight. Observers believe the nation's banks 1 will raise the prime lending rate they key corporate customers from -the record percent level.

Some have speculated it would hit 13 percent in the near future. Normally when interest rates rise, New York Stock Exchange i. 11:00 a.m. quotations Provided by A. G.

At Tuesday close Wheat, corn down the limit CHICAGO (UPI) Wheat, corn, oats and beans were substantially lower at the close Tuesday on the Chicago Board of Trade. Wheat was off 19 to off 20 cents (limit down Dec through July); corn was off 10 (limit down Dec through Sep); oats off 5 to off 6 (limit down Dec, Mar and May); and soybeans off 22 to off 27 V4 cents. A large negative factor in the grain markets was the sunny weather in Midwest growing areas. Wheat closed limit down for December through July contracts, with commercial buying of September wheat keeping that contract off lower levels. Commission house and professional selling pushed corn futures down the permissible 10 cent limit in all contracts.

Soybean futures recovered only a small portion of near-limit losses. Long liquidation also pressured the market. Commission house selling pushed oat futures down to the limit in most contracts. The outside markets were substantially lower. Tuesday Grain Futures By United Press International Chicago Board of Trade Prev.
