PAGE -THE INDIANAPOLIS STAR THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 19, 1964- TFJIIUIILE TEX KOKOMO SECOND SPECIAL SALE St. Joe Heads Last Grid Poll Panel Gives Purdue 10-3 Vote Over Indiana; Irish Unanimous 1964 FORDS ALL NEW CARS FAIRLANES GALAXIES MUSTANGS FALCONS TRUCKS WE REALLY DEAL TRY US AND SEE HARRY A. SHARP CO. BY THE ASSOCIATED PRESS Unofficial king of the 1964 Indiana high school football season is unbeaten, but once-tied, St. Joseph's of South Bend.

5 Sycamore Gridders On ICC Squad STAR STATE REPORT Greencastle, Ind. Indiana State's Sycamores placed five men on the 1964 all-Indi-a a Collegiate Conference football team selected by the league coaches and players. Center John Allen, tackle Art Fallon, guard Edgar Freese, and Willie Smith and fullback Emmitt Tyler were the Sycamore choices for the 11-man team. With five teams tied for the ICC championship a unique distinction in itself the re- 443 Virginia Ave. ME 2-9341 Bloo i held sixth place.

Roosevelt dropped from seventh to ninth, with Indi raw! I i anapolis Sacred Heart moving up from No. 8 to No. 7 and Oregon State and this is another that falls in that traditional category. So watch this one even though the panel favors the Ducks by a 9-4 margin. That takes care of five of the Terrible Ten.

The panel had a little harder time making up its mind about the other games. Two of the five were picked by only a seven to six margin and the other three by only an eight to five. Florida and Michigan were selected in their tilts with Florida State and Ohio State by the seven to six, so it's a sort of "close your eyes" and take your choice on these two. It is Illinois over Michigan State, Stanford over California and Yale over Harvard in the eight to five group. As a closing note it might be pointed out that Bill Scifres has joined the Notre Dame parade.

He tried outguessing Coach Ara Parseghian the past several weeks and this time adopted the "if you can't whip 'em, join 'em" admonition. Roche got off the Irish last week out learned his lesson quickly. When Old Oaken Bucket time comes around, all the sports columns you read say that when Indiana and Purdue get together that day it is anybody's game. But if you will look at what the Terrible Ten panel thinks about it well, it's a different story. Only three of the panel, Del Monroe, last week's winner, Harrison Howard and Bob Williams put the Hoosiers in the win column.

So mark it Purdue this year but don't call Us if it isn't so. NOTRE DAME AND NEBRASKA, in their games with Iowa and Oklahoma respectively, got the support of the panel with not a single dissenter. But don't bet the mortgage that Oklahoma isn't in the same league. Al Roche and Max Greenwald stuck their necks out and went for Kentucky over Tennessee but the other 11 members went along with Tennessee. This game, like the others, falls the traditional category and most anything can and, often does, happen.

It appears that Oregon should knock over state rival Warsaw from No. 10 to No. 8. Evansville Reitz, beaten by Evansville Bosse last week, The crown prince, a close second in the balloting by sports writers and sportscast-ers in the final Associated Press poll, is Kokomo, unbeaten-untied champion of the North Central Conference. THE TWO TEAMS were the only serious contenders for the top spot throughout the season.

St. Joseph's led all but one weekly poll, dropping to second place for one week after being tied 13-13 by South Bend Washington. Kokomo led that week and was runnerup the rest of the time. Elkhart's Blue Blazers, champions a year ago and beaten only by St. Joseph's in their opening game this year, held third place.

South Bend Washington and South Bend Riley, victors for the Northern Indiana Conference in playoff games with dropped out of the top 10, and undefeated-untied Ande Madison Heights edged in. THE FINAL TOP 10 had a combined season record of 91-4-4. Three of the defeats were administered by higher ranking teams, Elkhart losing to St. Joe and Roosevelt to St. Joe and Washington.

The ties were those played by the three South Bend teams. The top ten. (I fw Lass Todd 1. B. St Joe 9 (MM PANELIST Indiana law ot Michioon at Mlrfclooa St.

Butler's Bulldogs, who tied for the top spot to keep their ICC championship string going at eight straight, failed to land a man on the first squad and only two, halfback Dave Dullaghan and tackle Lyle Mitschelen, on the second.

Three Evansville seniors were on the elite 11, Ball State took two more spots and Valparaiso landed quarterback Dave Lass, the 1963 most valuable back and only repeater from last year's squad. Only unanimous selection was Jim Todd, Ball State's swift and muscular halfback from Wabash, Ind. Todd was on every ballot cast becoming the first player since 1958 to receive full honors. The 5-11, 197-pound junior led the ICC in rushing with a 7.7 average in 74 carries. Allen and Evansville halfback Bob Glaser moved up from the '63 honorable mention list to first-team berths this time around and Ball State guard Steve Psikula jumped up from the second team.

Paul Bullard of Evansville and Smith, both defensive ends, got first-team berths, along with the Aces' key tackle, Martin Amsler. Five teams landed spots on the second team, each with two players, and the Sycamores added end Joe Mervar. Football Coach Quits At Lowell Lowell, Ind.
