The man who answers is Ray Teal, the graying regular who plays Sheriff Coffee in the series. Teal has been answering the same call for nearly 30 years of an acting career in which he has portrayed more than 75 different sheriffs.

The veteran performer has appeared in some 500 movie, stage, radio and television roles. Bonanza producer David Dortort cast Teal as a sheriff in his Restless Gun series, remembered him when the show went off the air and hired him for his present role when the show entered its second season. Bonanza goes into its sixth season Sunday, Sept. 20. A native of Grand Rapids.

Teal is a sun-tanned 6-footer who plays golf in the low 80s. He entered the University of California as a business major and worked his way through college as a saxophone player, emcee and vocalist. After his graduation. Teal won a small part in a Grand National Studios film called "Sweetheart of the Navy." He's been acting ever since. DONNA REED performs a beautifying chore for Patty Petersen in "The Combo" on the Donna Reed Show at 8 p.m.
