The Tennessean 20A SUNDAY, JUNE 1, 2014 M.D. ELN0RA SMITH STEWART Nashville, TN JOHN WILLIAM LAMB, Nashville, TN Elnora Smith Stewart, age 102, was born December 12, 1911 in Palmersville, Weakley County, TN. She passed away peacefully May 29, 2014. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. She was preceded in death by her husband, Willard Clark Stewart, a veteran of World War II, originally of Cottage Grove, TN; parents, Rebecca Brann Smith and Philemon Andrew Smith of Palmersville, TN; brother, Richard Philemon Smith, also of Palmersville, a Navy flier killed in the line of duty in WWII; and sister, Willie B.

Smith Griffith of Warren, MI. Survived by her daughter, Alice Stewart Shehane; son-in-law, Charles Stephen Shehane; two grandsons, John William Lamb, MD, age 76, our beloved husband and father, went to be with the Lord on May 24, 2014. He was the son of the late Rev. Benjamin Lamb and Margaret Kelly Lamb, and the brother of the late Benjamin Lamb. He is survived by his wife, Linda; his daughters, Helena of Los Angeles and Betsy of Nashville; his son, John Jr.

of Santiago, Chile; and two grandchildren, Lilian and Connor. He is also survived by his sister, Martha Haire and nephew, John Haire, both of Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Dr. Lamb earned both his B.S. and M.D.

degrees from the University of Chicago. Chicago is also where 1 1 Jeffrey (Laura) Shehane of Nashville, TN and Michael Shehane of Knoxville, TN; two great-grandchildren, James Isaac and Emily Marie Shehane; sister, Carol Beth Smith Hutcherson of Dresden, TN; and many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins in Tennessee, Michigan, Ohio, Mississippi and Texas, including June (Bob) Ferrier, Dick (Barbara) Hutcherson, Pat (Richard) Yeakey, Dennis Griffith, Hugh Griffith, Phyllis (Harold) Parrott and Wayne (Tammy) Jones. She attended Palmersville Elementary and High Schools, and Union University, graduating with a BS in elementary education from George Peabody College for Teachers. She taught elementary school in Weakley County, TN for 12 years and at Brown Elementary School in Hendersonville, TN for 24 years. At Hendersonville, she taught 2nd grade and played piano for many school programs.

She had been a member and Sunday School teacher at Riverside Baptist Church New Life Baptist Church since 1946. She loved music, enjoyed playing the piano and composing many "praise She rejoiced in the fact that her daughter and grandchildren all became accomplished pianists. She loved the Lord and constantly praised Him for His blessings. She will be missed for her humor, sweetness, and wonderful Christian witness. Visitation will be held Sunday, June 1, 2014 from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. A Celebration of Life will be held Monday, June 2, 2014 at 1 p.m., with a visitation an hour prior. Army Medical Corps as part of the 82nd Airborne Division at 5th Army headquarters. He trained by jumping out of helicopters, but the core of his service was in the medical tent as part of the U.S. presence in the Dominican Republic. He completed his residency in orthopedic surgery in Albany, NY and was named Chief of Orthopedics at the VA Hospital. John married Linda Kinnicutt in Albany on June 13, 1970.

They moved to Nashville in 1972 when he joined Dr. S. Benjamin Fowler's group and the staff of Baptist Hospital. Dr. Lamb opened his private practice in 1974 at Mid-State Medical Center.

His door was open to all, regardless of financial means. Dr. Lamb cofounded the Faith Family Medical Center for the working uninsured, where he served patients generously and raised the support of a community to join him. He also served for more than two decades on the board and in the volunteer clinic of his cherished Nashville Rescue Mission, provider of faith-based services to the hungry and homeless. Among his professional honors and service were as President of the Nashville Academy of Medicine, Chairman of the Board of the Nashville Chapter of the Arthritis Foundation, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Tennessee Medical Association, recipient of the Tennessee Medical Association's Outstanding Physician Award, and recipient of the Nashville Business Journal's Healthcare Heroes Lifetime Achievement Award.

Dr. Lamb began every day reading his Bible and praying. He was a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church and its Fellowship Sunday School Class, Chancel Choir and Tuesday Morning Prayer Breakfast. Dr. Lamb was well known and beloved for his devotion to his patients and dedication to the practice of medicine.

A Memorial service will be held at Covenant Presbyterian Church at 3 o'clock on Sunday, June 1, with visitation immediately following. The family wishes to express gratitude to Drs. Stephen May, Stacy Davis, and William Penley, and to the staff at Richland Place Health Center and Caris Healthcare for their kind and excellent care. Diagnosed with Inflammatory Breast Cancer in 2000, Renae considered herself very blessed to walk her cancer journey with the support of many wonderful friends. A native Nashvillian, Renae attended The Neighborhood Playhouse in New York City and was a graduate of Vanderbilt University. Renae worked as a TV reporter in Nashville in the late 1970's early 80's and later spent almost 30 years working for the State of Tennessee, first as the Department of Transportation's first female Communications Director and later serving in various positions in the Department of Health. Originally planning to pursue an acting career, Renae was seen during her early and teenage years in dozens of local community theater performances, including as an original cast member of I Hear America Singing at Opryland, USA. Later she acted in several professional theater productions, including one at the Alley Theater in Houston.

Renae is survived by two daughters, Ashley Renner, Chicago, IL and Vanessa Renner, Nashville, TN. She is also survived by Edwin Y. Milam, Nashville, TN, who she described as her spiritual soul mate, best friend, and the love of her life. Renae is preceded in death by her mother, Joan Owen Pickens, her father Frank W. Pickens a brother, Frank W.

Pickens III, and grandparents, Pearl John Owen and Georgia Mae Frank Pickens. No visitation with the family is planned, but memorial donations may be given to Gilda's Club Nashville, 1707 Division Street, Nashville, TN 37203; and the Padmasambhava Buddhist Center, PO Box 120633, Nashville, TN 37212. Renae wanted to be cremated and her family has chosen not to hold a Memorial service at this time. They want, however, to thank all Renae's friends who she said taught her to love, hug, and appreciate every day the people who show us they care and touch our hearts. GLORIA COTTON LOGAN Waverly, TN Age 91, passed away on May 31, 2014.

Mrs. Logan was born March 19, 1923 in Greenville, KY to Bess and Millard Cotton. She earned a B.A. in Elementary Education from Western Kentucky State University in 1947; an M.A. in Curriculum and Instruction from Austin Peay State University in 1963; and an Ed.S.

from Austin Peay in 1975. Mrs. Logan taught in various KY and TN elementary schools. She has lived in Waverly, TN since 1954 and taught at Waverly Elementary School as well as Adult Education at Waverly Central High School. From 1978 to 1982, she was the Superintendent of Schools for Humphreys County.

In 1983, she served the Southern Baptist Convention's Mission Service Corps as Principal of Carib Christian School in Puerto Rico. Upon her return from Puerto Rico, she held various positions, including Student Teacher Supervisor at Austin Peay, Principal at Seven Hawks Educational School, and Education Coordinator at Highland Rim Head Start. Mrs. Logan is survived by her loving family of five children, six grandchildren, and a great-grandchild. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Waverly.

Memorial services will be held in the chapel of Humphreys County Funeral Home on Sunday, June 8 at 3:30 p.m. Reverend Danny Tidwell will be officiating. Visitation will be held at 1:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

Born May 10, 1924, in Enders, AR, she is preceded in death by her parents, Vernon Ira Clark, Sr. and Ruby Shaw Clark; husband, Lester Earl Vaden; sons, Gary Vaden and Michael Vaden and son-in-law, Lawrence Gammon; and brother, Robert Clark.
