12A SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 9, 2014 The Tennessean Sounds expect big crowds after move ebecka's New ballpark may bring spike in attendance By Dave Ammenheuser dammenheustennessean.com Nashville Sounds officials expect home attendance to possibly double when the minor league baseball team moves into a new ballpark in 2015. Speaking to the Nashville Kiwanis Club on Friday at Bridgestone Arena, general manager Brad Tammen said history indicates that the Pacific Coast team will see a huge spike in attendance when it moves to its new ballpark at Sulphur Dell. Tammen said that the franchises with the league's top attendances all opened new ballparks in recent years. The Sacramento River Cats (607,329) and the Round Rock Express (589,042) ranked first and second, respectively, in the league's turnstile count in 2013.

He said the Greer Stadium office phones have been very busy since the city announced plans to build the ballpark. "There's been tremendous response for season tickets and potential advertisers," Tammen said. He said the team is prioritizing the season ticket requests in three tiers: Tier one is for long-term season ticket holders at Greer Stadium. Tier two is for those who buy season tickets for the final season at Greer in 2014. Tier three is for those who are interested only in buying season tickets for the first year at the new ballpark.

He said the hierarchy will reward longtime Sounds fans. Although an official seating capacity has yet to be announced, Tammen said he expects the ballpark to seat about 10,000, the league minimum. Ground was broken on the $38 million ballpark on Jan. 27. Greer seats 10,300.

The Sounds open the season on April 3 at Omaha. The home opener is April 11 against Omaha. Tickets are available at Nashville Sounds.com and at 615-690-4487. Reach Dave Ammenheuser at 615-259-8352. In TN-0000966115 1 m.
