Clutter will bring together campus and community stakeholders to address issues of poverty. Clutter, from Hendersonville, is an alumnus of Hendersonville High School. She graduated from Middle Tennessee State University and is returning for a second year of service at Concordia University as the experiential education coordinator. This year, she'll continue to empower student leaders to co- building on the skills and experiences from my first VISTA term of service," Clutter said.

"I'm going to utilize my relationship-building skills to help students foster a sense of social responsibility and social justice while connecting their academics to a broad sense of community." In September, Clutter met with the 2013-14 VISTA team to officially celebrate the start of service. Inspired by the work of the 2012-13 AmeriCorps team, she's motivated to make an impact in Oregon. A musical setting for Charles Dickens' "A Christmas Carol" is a natural, and this holiday, the Hendersonville Performing Arts Company's production, based on the Broadway version, generously crams music into its quick spin through the venerable story.

Scott Chevalier uses his musical pipes to bring to life Ebenezer Scrooge, the man whose miserliness needs no introduction. There's experienced musical-comedy talent in the cast, from small roles to large, with expert stuff from Emily Ernst as the Ghost of Christmas Past, Sarah Hollis as the Ghost of Christmas Present and Elizabeth Turner as the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Be. Rob Pitt returns to the stage to play the chain-rattling Jacob Marley's ghost. Alan Menken, the veteran tunesmith of "Beauty and the Beast" fame, contributes the music, with lyrics by Lynn Ahrens The show, directed by Lynlea Keightley and Kym Sims, opens Nov. 29 and runs through Dec.

For The Hendersonville Star News 1 Grant for SSNA depends on donation of matching funds The Sumner Spay Neuter Alliance's low-cost spayneuter clinic has been offered a $5,000 grant, if matching funds can be found.

The clinic has spayed and neutered more than 15,000 animals in the last 2 2 years, saving lives by preventing the birth of thousands of unwanted puppies and kittens. One-third of these surgeries have been offered to low-income pet owners for no charge. The pet overpopulation crisis is a direct result of animals left unaltered. Spaying and neutering is an efficient, effective means of driving down euthanasia and overcrowding in local shelters. SSNA has until early November to obtain the matching grant funds.

Donations are tax-deductible. To help, contact the SSNA at president sumnerspayneuter alliance.org or donate at the website sumnerspay neuteralliance.org, or contact President June McMahon at 615-714-3096.
