Gregg spoke but a few minutes and tbe meeting adjourned. RETURNED--Profesbor Gustav Eisen, who bad charge of the celebrated Eisen Vineyard," near Fresno, for seven years, and who left for Gauteraala. Central America, about a year ago, has returned to San Francisco, and will most likely make his home again in Fresno county. During his residence here Professor Eisen planted and carefully observed the growth and other characteristics of one hundred and sixty diflerent varieties of grapes, as well aa a vast number of domestic plants and trees. His flower garden at the vineyard was a marvel of beauty, containing two hundred aud forty different varieties of roses alone.

Mr. Eisen has been a life long student of natural history, at one time an instructor in that department in the University of Sweden, and during his ten years -residence ia the United States he has always maintained his relations with and contributed to the museum of the University. Bis general knowledge of the plants of all countries, coupled with his practical experience with grapes in this ralley make Ms services of special value our community and hh return will be welcomed by raany personal many who know him by reputation. A LIE --Thursday's Expositor, in an indefinite manner, as usual, arraigns a couple of Republican speakers for abusing the Supervisors accusing of corruptly using the public funds. We have the word of the gentlemen themselves, and other parties who were present at the meeting, that every word of above statement is an infamous He; that the gentlemen did not speak cHs- oaragmgly of the supervisors; that they lefended them for their action in trying recover raonev stolen from the county by the District Attorney, but they "did say that the county treasury was so depleted by official collections of illegal and fraudulent Mils that the public "unds were not sufficient to build the bridges and roads that the county so much needs If the Supervisors are unable to defend tho county against the schemes of disreputable officials it is no aspersion upon their honesty.

It is in their favor that they have attempted to do this. Let this lie rest where it belongs. DECEASED --3Ir Barrows died at us home on the Central Colony Wednesday evening, October 25th. at 7 o'clock, after a lung- illness from hereditary consumption. Mr.

Barrows born in Gennessee county, Michigan, May 3d, 1848. He went to Peoria, Illinois, ia and for two years was city editor of a daily paper. He afterward removed Bloouiington, Illinois, and engaged in jewelry business In 1880 he removed to California on account of failing health, and purchased a twenty-acre "arm iu the Central California Colony, near Fresno. For some time his health was greatly improv ed, and life evidently prolonged by the change, but in his case early death was inevitable, and it was preceded by the greatest suffering. He was a man of liberal education and ideas, and, though anxious to live, met death without feur, or any evidence of mental weakness He was buried in the Fresno cemetery, the funeral services being held fciie Methodist church yesterday at 11 0 clock A PUBLIC wide, study and pleasant drive would be of inestimable jenefit to the citizens of Fresno.

North and wife, of Washington Colony, returned on Thursday evening from a visit to their old home at Riverside. Frank Gross, Clerk of the Supreme Court was in Fresno on Thursday. He has been a splendid officer and shoud be re-elected by all means. Bank Bniton, for many years engaged in mining in Virginia City, is at present in Fresno. We hope he may conclude to make this his nermaneat home Hon.

lobn H. Ward, of San Bernardino, will address the citizens of Fresno' at Donaboo's new building, opposite the Postoffice, this evening, on the issues of the day. Chas. W. Dana, Republican nominee for member of the Board of Equalization fiom this district was in town yesterday.

He is one of the most popular men in the State D. E. Bundy aud family, who have been living in Los Angeles county for a couple of months past, arrived at Fresno on Tuesday last, and will remain here permanently. GeorgeOsster, better known as "Tally" Gaster, the famous first-baseman of the Occidental base ball club of Santa Cruz, was in town this week. He reports the national game very dull at Santa Cruz this season.

Mrs.A.H Statham and daughter, Miss. Rosa, arrived in Fresno OB Wedoesdar evening. They have been living in Santa Rosa during the past summer, and their many friends will be pleased to learn of their return to Fresno. Mr. Moody, father of two well-known citizens of Fresno, N.

W. and J. G. Moody, accompanied by his daughter, Miss Bessie, arrived at Fresno on Sunday evening's tram. They will probably make their home in our city.

T. B. Gourley, of Central Colony, accompanied by his family, started on Mondav for San Lou-s Obispo, where they Will in future make their home. Their departure is a loss to the community in which they have lived. E.

M. Gibson, candidate for Railroad Commissioner, and Dr. Rowell, of this city, addressed a large audience of the citizens of Selma and vicinity on Wednesday evening. Mr. Gibson's sincere and candid manner of dealing with the monopoly issues is making Sim friends wherever he goes.

Col Wm. Forsyth, proprietor of the Geyser Springs Hotel, arrived here last Friday. He proposes remain until next March to look after the improvement of his fine vineyard east of town He is possessed of abundant means and taste, and we predict that completed his place will be second to none in Fresno county. Mr Elmore, the gentleman who is at the head of the new gas company in this place, was in town several days last week, and has satisfactorily completed all the arrangements for the organization of the company. He is now in the city, and will return shortly to complete arrangements for building: the factory and putting the pipes.

Rev. I. L. Hopkins returned from conference last Monday, and is busily engaged in making preparations for his departure to Gilroy, his new field of labor. Mr.

Hopkins is a sincere and worthy man, and the departure of himself and family will be sincerely regretted by members of his congregation as well as by all those who have enjoyed their acquaintance. Mr A Tombs, a well-known citizen of Fresno who has been absent for the past five months on a visit to ould" Ireland, the land ot his nativity, returned on last Saturday evening Mr Tombs had a pleasant visit 'mid the scenes of his childhood, tint is perfectly satisfied to spend the remainder of his days in California. Mr. 8 H. Cole, formerly of Big Dry Creek, who left Fresno in May last for rTashicgton Territory, aud returned in August, cahie in one day this week and renewed his allegiance to THE BEPOBU CAS.

He says Washington Territory may be a good place for some people, but it is'not the place for a Californian to emigrate to and expect to be satisfied. Parsonage Brolcen Into. Hughes, 89 Haldah daughter of Jesse Morrow, of the Morrow House, was born in Fresno county, Dec Wfcli, I960. Several years ot her girlhood wen ipent in school in San Jose was married'to Thomas M. Hughes, at her father's borne in Fresno, on the 13th of January, 1881, and has since resided at the Morrow House.
