It will remain an understated relationship." Bettye was laughing about the dressing room she shares with her husband Sam Jaffe. "I get top billing on the door." Ernie By JULIA INMAN Hollywood "YOUR MAJESTY, please. A little energy, a little acting." Director Sydney Pollack was shooting a scene from a special Ben Casey show at Bing Crosby Productions. His directions were aimed at Vince Edwards, who was being shot closeup, bending over a stretcher. Pollack said "Cut," and Edwards strolled over to where we were standing for a brief chat. The moody and controversial actor was showing his charming side.

Asked about rumors that he would smile more next season, Edwards looked grim. "They've been saying that for three years," he declared. BUT SMILES or no smiles, he's happy about the scripts he'll be having next fall. "We're getting back to the kind of impact we had the first season." Casey, of course, will be in competition with last year's block-buster, Beverly Hillbillies. NEXT TO WHERE we were standing, a young Negro extra was waiting to appear in the background of a scene.

He was a reminder of Hollywood's biggest TV controversy, which is boiling hot right now. The recent demands of Integration leaders that every running TV series have a part for a Negro has the TV community buzzing.
