Most Designers Stress Bodice Most of the interest of thh category of evening dress is centered in :hc bodice. Necklines arc either high, or else high nl (he back with deep, ttiuarc-cut or V-shaped fronts. The bust is stressed with draperies and the waistline usually raised. The skirt is just above or below ankle length, sometimes shorter in front and cut on slim, modern lines, a slight fulness generally introduced very gradually from well below the hipline. The leading creators have interpreted the long-sleeved evening dress in a variety of ways. Maggy Rouff shows one in handsome lame in a new black and silver lace design cut on princess lines with generous square front decollete and long, slim sleeves. A new and amusing little velvet neckband in bright velvet ribbon finished with a .shirred rosette and a shirred velvet muff complete the picture. Ardanse favors deep red velvet, in the shade which she calls "Black Dahlia," also cut on clinging princess ilncs. Hosevienne suggests black brochc silk crepe for a dress with the lop simulating a tunic. The edge of this tunic and the high, clinging collar are underlined with appliqued stylised leaves in gold kid. Pink and Purple as Rivals (o Black A Jean Patou model in black crepe has the bodice entirely embroidered in black crystal lubes. The V decollete is placed at the back, extending to the waistline ;md the front is correspondingly high. A strip of the crystal embroidery is carried down the front of the skirt to the hem, while the edges of the decollete, the band on the skirt and an encrusted band down the front of the bodice arc done in diamante for contrast. This model is completed by a wide scarf cape of the plain crepe which can be worn to suit the wearer's moods. An interesting color combination, as an alternative to black, is suggested by Jacques Heim, in a cape and long- sleeved dress ensemble. The high- necked bodice is in pale pink velvet, with the fulness massed on each shoulder and above the raised waistline under arabesques of purple velvet ribbon to match the long, clinging skirt. . -. • v'tf'?''* "-.' v. <. -nvff •« oo>wraAawj*vHM Jean Patou makes this smart coat for town or country of thick soft wool in light beige and finishes it with collar and cuffs of elegant beaver.
