Trn-I'ln Talk Baseball Honors Heilmann, Waner Laveme Biers, Lynch Set Pace New York (API Two of the great all-time hitters of baseball the late Harry Heilmann of the Detroit Tigers and Pittsburgh'! Paul Waner- were named yesterday to baseball's Hall of Fame. Detroit in 1948. Entry deadline is midnight.

The ABC runs from March 22 through June 15 in the Mil- Iff Tigers Win 13th Tilt By 61-36 Crispus Attucks marked up its sixth straight high school basketball victory at Tech last night, 61-36 over Sacred Heart. It was the Flying Tigers' second victory of the year over the Spartans and gave them a record of 13 decisions and one loss for the season, best in te county. Earlier Attucks took the Spartans, 83-37. The score was close for three quarters, but Coach Ray Crowe used his reserves the entire second period and the first seven minutes of the third. With one minute to go in the third, Attucks held a 33-32 edge.

AT THIS POINT the first-stringers returned and carried the Tigers into a 37-32 lead by the end of the quarter. The Tigers outscored the Spartans, 24-4, in the final eight minutes. Attucks held leads of 12-6 and 28-20 at the first two quarter stops. Willie Gardner's 16 points topped both teams in scoring. Lcighman CovingKn added 15 to the Tiger total, while Jim Haag paced Sacred Heart with 13.

HellinHnn H'aner Heilmann had a lifetime major league batting average of .342. Waner, strictly a lefthanded right fielder, broke into organized baseball at the age of 20 in 1923 with San Francisco. Ha graduated to the Pirates in 1926, remaining there through 1940. lie spent hitches with Brooklyn and Boston in the National League and the New York Yankees in the American before hanging up his glove after th 1945 campaign. He got to bat one time as a pinch-hitter for the Yankees in 1945 and the records show he failed to hit in his last official appearance at the plate.

He had a lifetime batting average of .333. Leo Harnhorst and PhuI Walther will represent the Olymps for the Western five. Mikan and Vern Mikkelsen of the Lakers were unanimous choices for the West and so were Bob Davies and Bob W'anzer of Rochester. Frank Brian and Larry Foust of Fort Wayne, Jim Pollard of Minneapolis and Dike Eddleman of Milwaukee complete the lineup. Bob Cousy and F.d MacAuley of Boston, Paul ArUin and Andy Philip of Philadelphia and Dolph Schayes of Syracuse were unanimous Eastern picks. Fred Scolari of Baltimore, Joe Fulks of Philadelphia, Max Zas-lofslty and Dick MeGuire of New York and Red Rocho of Syracuse round out the Eastern club.

And Park will attempt to avenge its lone defeat ofcithe season against visiting Culver Military, without defeat in 11 trips. IN OTHER games tonight, Plainfield Charlton visits Deaf School; Manual will be at Beech Grove; Shortridge drops in on Lebanon; Greenfield has invited Warren Central; Tech will have Marion in for a North Central Conference go-around, and Franklin Township tries Center Grove's floor. Broad Ripple will play and Tech and Speedway goes to Washington in two pretty fair offerings tomorrow night. The rest of tomorrow's card reads this way: Lawrence Central has invited Brownstown; Howe plays host to Terre Haute Garfield and Plainfield Charlton drops in on Park. Wilt, Gehrmann Run At Milwaukee Tonight Milwaukee (API Don Gehrmann will meet Fred Wilt tonight for the fourth time this yrar in the Milwaukee Journal indoor games.

The mile clash Gehrmann has won the previous three this season and 14 of 18 over threa years will feature the Journal games in the $5,000,000 downtown Sports Palace here. THE IRISH cany one of the best records in town, 9-3. They had a five-game winning streak pulled from under them at Tech last week and, naturally, are anxious to start wheeling again. The youthful Hornets (10-4) blossomed early, then, ran into an endless, string of injuries which have slowed them down somewhat lately. (API Murray State of Kentucky, paced by Bennie Purcell's 30 points, won I its 14th game of the basketball spason last night by drubbing Evansville.

Evansville's offense received a blow after three minutes when high-scoring Bob Northerner became ill and had to leave the game. He had hit the only shot he took.

Chosen by a vote of baseball writers, they became the 61st and to tie enshrined at Conperstown, N.Y. Heilmann, four-time hatting champion of the American League in the Roaring Twenties, died last July 9 at the age Of fifi.

HEILMANN, A strapping six-foot right fielder in his day, died thinking he had been elected to the Hall of Fame although the honor did not come until six months later. While he lay dying of lung cancer, the former Detroit slugger was visited by Ty Cobb and told that a special old-timers' committee had voted him the honor.

This proved premature since only the baseball writers were privileged to make the selection of players active in the last 25 years. A native of San Francisco, Heilmann starred for the Tigers from 1914 to 1929 and became acknowledged as one of the five greatest righthanded hitters ol all time. He won the American League batting championship in 1921, 1923, 1925 and 1927. lie blazed to his best year in 1923 when be had a .403 average. His other winning years, In order, showed averages of .394, .393 and .398.
