LA PORTE, March peculiar shape of a young man walking hurriedly toward the New York Central railroad tracks attracted the attention of Patrolman Harry Freese.

He investigated and found Gilbert Vanderpool, 19 years old, of Mobile, with an automobile robe stuffed under his coat. admitted stealing the robe from the automobile of Emmet Doolittle and was fined $1 and costs and sentenced to thirty-five days on the penal farm. Vanderpool said that he intended to board a freight train and wanted the blanket to keep him warm. POLICE CHIEF IS SUED. NEW ALBANY, March James G.

McCombs of Louisville, today filed in Federal court here a suit against Matthew E. Clegg, chief of police at Jeffersonville, for $20,000 damages because of alleged false arrest. He states that he was arrested Jan. 18, 1927, on a charge of issuing a fraudulent check, which was based upon a false representation, and that on May 1927, he was acquitted of the charge by a jury in the Circuit court in Jeffersonville. AUTO SUIT DISMISSED.

VINCENNES, March of J. Spencer Cooper against Thomas Martin, Vincennes police chief, and Samuel Smock, Terre Haute police chief, was dismissed yesterday in Circut court. Spencer, who was acquitted at Terre Haute several weeks ago on an automoble theft charge, sought replevin of the car in question.
