Iowa home-comers frankly didn't know what to expect from the Boilermakers who almost toppled Notre Dame before suffering one-sided losses to Northwestern and Michigan. THE IOWA team, however, apparently was set for a rugged Big Nine Conference game. The Hawks' spirit has been tops for the season following a 14-7 decision over Ohio State. Except for Left Halfback Bob Longley, Iowa will be virtually at peak physical strength. Meanwhile, the Boilermakers came to town without Ends Clyde Grimenstein and Bob Whitmer, Halfback Neil Schmidt and Fullback Bob Agnew.

BEATEN ONLY by Speedway in county action, the Bears never were headed by the Warriors. They had a 14-6 lead at the half after Marion Jessup twice scored on passes from Dan Siler and Byron Weaver. Another from Tom Allen to Ronald 'Bragdon, gave Lawrence its third-quarter touchdown, more than enough to offset Fullback Ed Wieland's two tallies and another by Keith Bobenmoyer for the Warriors.

DELAWARE Riley 1436 Ohio Plays At Indiana For 1st Time Since '35 By JACK K. OVERMYER, Star Sports Writer Bloomington, Oct. 15-Indiana Homecoming Day football treat Not since 1935 have the Bucks agreed to desert their own cavernous Ohio Stadium and play Indiana's Hoosiers on Bloomington Tomorrow's 30th meeting, before 32,000 fans, is a crucial one for the Big hopes of both teams.

Each wants the victory to justify impressive starts which last week were jolted with first defeats. Clyde Smith's paper-thin Hoosiers go into the contest sharing the Western Conference lead with Northwestern on opening victories over Wisconsin and Iowa. The Smith must face Minnesota, Michigan and Purdue after the Bucks and a 3-0 record going into this rugged windup would give them the phychological edge, at least. WES FESLER has about the same personnel on his Ohio team as last year, but the overall ability has risen considerably. Like Indiana, the Buckeyes started off in fine fashion by dumping Missouri and Southern California.

Iowa won the Bucks' Conference opener last Saturday, 14 to 7, while Indiana was dropping an extracurricular outing to Texas Christian, 7 to 6. Ohio, however, will be in its best physical shape of the season while Indiana will start two regulars whose conditions still are questionable because of TCU injuries. Against Iowa, Ohio had to start a fourth-string right half be- Today's Big 9 Bill Ohio State at Indiana. Purdue at Iowa. Northwestern at Michigan.

Those three are back in uniform now, as is Ray DiPierro, whose absence at left guard caused a great deal of defensive shortcomings against the Hawkeyes. JOE BARTKIEWICZ at end and Slug Witucki at guard are the two Indiana regulars who'll start despite week-old injuries.

The tissue line of I. U. reserves was further cut this week when Nick Lysohir, second-string quar terback, was banged up. Del Russell, the hard-luck left halfback, will miss his fourth game because of a leg injury. Tomorrow's offensive fireworks are likely to be centered around a pair of burly fullbacks Indidiana's Chick Jagade Ohio's Joe Whisler.

Jagade is out to make his last year his best. He leads the Big Nine's rushers on 80 yards in 12 cracks and recently exhibited his open-field ability by getting away for 30 yards for the touchdown which beat Iowa. Irish Heavy Favorites To Beat Huskers Lincoln, Oct.

15 (P) -The Notre Dame Irish are heavy favorites to defeat Nebraska tomorrow before a football crowd expected to exceed 38,000. Notre Dame has been unbeaten in 20 games. Particularly, disturbing to Nebraska has been the poor pass defense of the Huskers in their three games to date. Notre Dame has a good passer in Quarterback Frank Tripucka and a pair of big ends in Jim Martin and Leon Hart to harass the short Husker secondary. LAST YEAR Notre, Dame whipped Nebraska, 0, at South Bend.

Reported definitely out of the game by Notre Dame are Capt. Bill Fischer, top-flight guard suffering from an elbow injury, and Coy McGee. McGee, diminutive left halfback, is lost for the rest of the season due to a broken leg suffered in practice yesterday afternoon. Nine of the Hoosier regulars played over 110 out of a possible 180 minutes this season. Tomorrow, Smith says, there'll be more relief, regardless.

He's no doubt thinking about Minnesota, Michigan and Purdue and forget Notre Dame.
