Dog Stays On In Sewer, Complains "Brownie," a small brown cocker spaniel, just wouldn't be rescued last night. Construction workers called police after they heard persistent barking of the pooch emanating from a sewer in the 4200 block of East Brookside Parkway, South Drive. They enlisted the aid of Norman Kleifgen, 4127 East Brookside Parkway, South Drive, whom they lowered, head first, into the sewer by his heels.

The 10-yearold boy could Brownie the pipe was too small for him to crawl into. After dropping bones to try to entice the dog to the opening, police decided "Brownie" didn't want rescuing as bad as his plaintive howls indicated and gave up. Nearby residents said dogs get into the pipe frequently but always seem to get out. Beloved husband and father, sweet happy memories cling around your name; True hearts that loved you with deepest affection, love you in death just the same; You left behind broken hearts that never did forget you and never will, And who always think of you and who tries to be brave and content. Gone is the face we loved so dear and silent is the voice we loved to hear. Sad but true, we wonder why that the best are always first to We hope to meet you some day, we know not when. To clasp your hand in the better land, never to part again. -Wife and Sons.

2 (P) -Forty film personalities participated today in a "Hollywood Fights Back" broadcast, second of two network airings sponsored by the Committee for the First Amendment in opposition to the House Committee on Un-American Activities inquiry into Communism Hollywood. Directed by Norman Corwin, the program originated in Hollywood and had Washington and New York tie-ins. Actor Richard Conte summarized the group's position this way: "MR. THOMAS (Committee chairman J. Parnell Thomas) has said that this committee will be back.

When he comes back, we will be back. And in the meantime we hope you, wherever you are, will join the swelling ranks of those who demand that the Un-American Committee which has aroused such indignation and unrest across America be abolished -not merely reshuffled, but voted out of existence." Among movie folk who flew to Washington to protest against the hearings and appeared on today's show were Humphrey Bogart and his wife, Lauren Bacall; Danny Kaye, June Havoc, John Huston, Marsha Hunt and Gene Kelly, Actor Gregory Peck, referring to a report by the President's Committee on Civil Rights, said: "As an ominous punctuation to that report yesterday a mob broke up a peaceful meeting not in the Munich but in the city of Philadelphia in Independence Square, ironically in the shadow of our Liberty Bell. So the UnAmerican committee bears its Cavalry 'Slips Up' In Rehearsal For Royal Wedding London, Nov. 2 -A rehearsal for Princess wedding procession from PalElizabeth's, ace to Westminster Abbey was held in a rain early today. First, came a procession of four small open wagons, representing the four coaches which will convey the Queen and other members of royal family.

Around each wagon was a cavalry guard. Then followed the richly gilded Irish state coach. It was empty today, but on Nov. 20 it will carry the Princess and King George VI to the Abbey for her wedding to Lt. Philip Mountbatten.

At the west door of the Abbey the escort of household cavalry wheeled too far to the left and was badly out of line. That was corrected. Later, the horse bearling the colonel commanding the horse guards slipped and fell. The colonel remounted quickly and dashed after the state coach. Boy Probationer Nabbed After Raid On Icebox A ragged 16-year-old boy who left an empty icebox behind him and a note asking "God's forgiveness" was still hoping for the latter in jail last night.

Freed recently on probation from the Plainfield Boys' School, the hollow-cheeked youth was nabbed yesterday, by William Reese, old, as he ran from Reese's house at 450 West 15th Street. In his kitchen Reese found the remains of a hastily gobbled meal and a note saying: "I'm sorry for stealing. I haven't had anything to eat for three days I'll pay it back later." "God forgive me," the note concluded. The boy admitted to Juvenile authorities he broke in the back door of Reese's home. He was believed to have run away from the home of a relative here.

Singer Reports $10.000 Gem Loss Chicago, Nov. 2 (P)-Singer Martha Tilton reported to police today the loss of $10,000 worth of jewelry last night. The Los Angeles radio and stage performer, making a personal appearance at a theater here, said she walked to her hotel after last night's final show, and may have dropped the jewelry which she was carrying in a case.
