THE TERBE HAUTE STAR, WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 23, 1961 Osuna, Palafox Win as Doubles Tennis Resumes BROOKLINE, Aug. 22. Davis Cuppers Rafael Osuna and Antonio Palafox opened the seeded play in the 81st U. S. L.

T. A. National doubles tennis championships today with a 6-3, 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 victory over King Lambert of Miami, and Ray Senkowski of Ham- tramek, Mich. Though the week-long tourney at Langwood Cricket Club began Sunday, rain washed out yesterday's scheduled action and none of Hie top players were in competition the first day. OSUNA, 22, and Palafox, 20, upset doubles winners during last weekend's Davis Cup play against the United States, slowed down a bit in the third set but were clearly in command the rest of the way.

The Mexican team is seeded third here. Top ranked Karen Hantze of San Diego, and Janet' Hopps of Seattle, needed only 20 minutes to dispose of their initial opponents in a second round women's match. Miss Hantze, looking even younger than her 18 years, and the 28-year-old Miss Hopps toyed with Virginia Connolly of Weymouth, and Jean Sullivan of Belmont, Mass. In a 6-0, 6-0 triumph. School teacher Miss Hopps was playing with a heavily bandaged left knee because of a sprain.

DARLENE HARD of Long Beach, back in action after an illness-enforced Spring layoff, was at her best as she teamed with Australian teenager Lesley Turner to elminate Marilvn Montgomery, San Antonio, and Mrs. Nancy Neeld of Albuquerque, N. 6-2, 6-3, in another second round match. The 25-year-old Miss Hard, who won the singles title at Manchester last weekend, carried the unseed.ed team, both in her fine sen-ice and her net play. Both losers were troubled with weak services and sloppy volleying.

The third ranked women's team. Jail Lehane and Margaret Smith of Australia, prevailed easily with a 6-3, 6-2 decision over Carole Loop of Arcadia, and Joyce Davenport of Ardmore, in her first round action. German champion Edda Buding of Cologne and Mexican titlist Yola Ramirez blanked Barbara Foster of Norton, and Jean Desrosiers of Boston, 6-0, 6-0, while the British teams of Christine Truman and Ann Haydon won Mrs. Suzanne by default over Geller of Chappaqua, N. and Mrs.

Laura Krieger of Scarsdale, N. in first round matches. West Virginia's 1962 football team will play a game in Portland, against Oregon State.
