Orbison, Indiananoh.s attorneys, yesterday filed special appearances for the Klan in Attorney General Arthur L. Gilliom's suit in Circuit court to oust the organization from Indiana. The special appearance was the first response to the suit in which the attorney general charged that the order obtained a state charter by making false affidavits. The Washington attorney has figured frequently in national Klan affairs and is said to be chief attorney and head of the political board of strategy of the order. Charles J.

Orbison was formerly Federal prohibition enforcement chief for Indiana and is a national vice of the Klan. Telford P. Evans, imperial wizard, and Joe M. Huf-fington, Indiana grand dragon, defendants in the case. As his second step in the attempt to evict the Klan and place it in receivership the attorney general yesterday filed an interrogatory containing 11:9 separate questions aimed to reveal state and national activities of the organization. He petitioned Judge Harry O. Chamberlin of Circuit court to compel the Klan officials to answer the questions.

Activities Closely Questioned. The questions propounded by Mr. Gilliom concern the Klan's influence in Indiana politics; who was supported as political candidates by the Klan; how the Klan political power came about; the activities of D. C. Stephenson in Klan politics, and similar matters relating to the Klan's political activities generally.

The interrogatory also inquires into finances of the organization and asks such questions as the names of persons receiving salaries, the amounts they receive and what the remainder of the money left after meeting the pay roll is expended for. Mr. Gilliom also asked about the Klan regalia, and asked questions to bring out the name of the manufacturer and who profited by sale of regalia. Ladies Plain SILK an.
