President and Mrs. Put' nam Will Sponsor Affair Thursday. 1 no 'J Butler University seniors will be honor guests at a reception from 8 to 10 o'clock Thursday night in the formal gardens on the Fairvlew campus sponsored by President and Mrs. James W. Putnam.

Invitations have been sent to more than two hundred and seventy-five students who are members of the 1935 graduating class. The president's reception Is held each year to honor the seniors. Members of the receiving line will be President and Mrs. Putnam, Dean and Mrs. Frederick D.

Kershner, Dean and Mrs. William L. Richardson, Dean and Mrs. Gino A. Ratti and members of the men's and women's councils at the university.

A musical program will be given by the Kappa Alpha Theta trio composed of Miss Mary Martha Hocken-smith, pianist; Miss Judith Mlley, violinist, and Miss Jean Southard, cellist. BLOOMINGTON, June 1. Governor Paul V. McNutt was principal speaker at the fifth annual speech banquet at Indiana University, sponsored by Theta Alpha Phi, honorary dramatics organization; Phi Delta Gamma, honorary dramatic, journalistic and forensic fraternity, and Tau Kappa Alpha, honorary debating organization. The banquet was held in honor r-f students outstanding In these, fields. Catherine Feltus of Bloomington and Irving Cohen of East Chicago were named the outstanding actress and actor for the year.

Verlin Stephens of Marion was named the person who made the greatest contribution in the field of dramatics. J. E. O'Brien of Evansville and Lloyd Wilkins of Indianapolis were presented a loving cup for having made the most valuable contribution in the newspaper field this year. Debaters Given Keys.

Gold keys were awarded Klizabeth Hillix of Lakewood, and Jane Fenn of Tell City, who won the Intramural debating contest recently sponsored by Phi Delta Gamma. Stuart VanDyke of Winona Lake and Robert Aakby of Ladoga, run-rers-up in the competition, were presented silver keys. Betty Yellen of East Chigago was named winner of the William Jennings Byran prize of for the oratorical contest. Dorothea Mae Lynch of Hammond end Dorothy Nordman of Crawfords-ille, both juniors, have been named joint winners of the $100 scholarship offered annually by the Association of Women Students to two self-supporting junior women.

Miss Nordman also wiil receive the additional $100 awarded by Earl Klough, I. V. graduate, to the winner of the A. W. S.

After the ceremony a wedding breakfast was served. Appointments were in pink and white. Vases of Briarcliff and American Pride roses were used throughout the house. The ceremony took place in the living room before a large bay window which was banked with palms and ferns and festooned with smilax. The window was flanked with tall vases of pink gladioli and white peonies.
