ScrtMDEK. School Honac Jor The last Legislature passed an Act thorizing the School Trustees of the City District to bontln to $15,000, for the erection of iiool buildiug the town of Fresno, cl the mniutainancc of a school for A This was to be a debt of the Dis- ict, an tcx to be levied to interest and such part of the princi- as would liquidate the debt in 'teen years.

The Trustees iluitcd nterence of citizens last Tuesday, lo nsider what steps should be taken ider the law. It was decided tlmt lock B--as per plot of town of Fresno-as a suitable place for the building, nd Mr. Crocker, the- of the town te was petitioned for its donation. It as estimated that $10,000 would be ifflcient for the building, and immc- ate steps will be taken for its creation. arc glad to see an educational spirit lanifested by our and would re- tice at the completion of a IwmUmnc ublic school house, but tlie sc i aside a building costing over and most new, and fixing upon this single istrictot a debt of not less natter of too much importance to done liiislily.

Tlie immediate need a class room for advanced pupils. It questionable whether the little and irge do best when schooled in the same uildimr, where there must of necessity a commingling before and after school ours and dtiniig intermissions. ivo already two large well finished class ooms, capable of accommodating not ess than eighty scholars. If this build- llg could be utilized and another erected apable of accommodating as maiw more occurs to us that every rtuiuirement would 1)3 met. If tbe present locution objectionaUe, another can be obtained idopted for both buildings.

It is eli- natted that there is about $700,000 vorth of property in this district. Tiie nturcst on $15,000 would amount to about $1,500 a year, or less th.m twenty cents on each hundred dollars of prop- irty, or less than forty cents sinking fund nciudcd. We do not object to this tax, ir a larger one for school purposes. If it is idvisablc to build a building now, let us lava a good one--the $13,000 and all old bouse will bring beside. Although the present attendance in our school is only about fifty scholars, for which there ire three teachers, there are pupils enough in this district to make a school of one hundred mid fifly, and probajily Sfty of them are beyond a primary grade.

It is said, and with some reason, tbat a line school house will indnce settlement in our village. We would suggest that a fine school house amounts to but little without a fine school inside. We would like to sec a brick building, tastily finished and adopted to the education of idvanccd pupils, and occupied with a teacher or teachers whose individual influence, if nothing elsf, would induce the people of this county to send their sons and daughters here instend of to Oakland or Santa Kosa, or Benicia or elsewhere. If this district needs $10,000 worth more of school honses. then the vicinity and county needs a school house for advanced pupils.
