A petition has been in circulation asking the retention of the postmaste: at Arcola, or, at least, a continuance of the present management. The paper, it is claimed, is signed by 204 straight democrats and nearly 100 re publicans, a formidable showing. The matter has been laid before Judge Lowry. There are about 117 postoffices in the six counties of this congressional district.

Of these, twenty-four are money order offices.and perhaps twelve are 'presidential offices--that is, the pay is over $1,000, and the incumbent is appointed and commissioned by the president. Out of the 117, not more than thirty are worth having al all, about 75 per cent, of the whole number being really a nuisance to the man (or woman) holding them. At the recent re-union of the Thirtieth Indiana, in this city. General Lew Blnir, of Waterloo, was "knocked silly" by a story told by Dr. Tounge, in his speech at the banquet.

The boys however, enjoyed the hit immensely, the more so probably, seeing how demoralized the brigadier was under fire. Tho next time, the Waterloo major must not "give himself away" by squirming and screaming so when the shot cuts cloeo to the centre. FRUIT Coffees, Ttea? and Our Tea Trade is continually growing. Y. Bmc to Manage an 2ncutator. As many of our readers are interested in any mlo-mation that serves to assist in securing tair hutches, we give the following from a correspondent of the PoiMry World: reason so many fully matured chicks die in the shell is for want of sufficient mois- tute, the membrane intervening between tho cliick and the shell becoming so tough that the Lttle orphan cannot breakthrough it and so dies. In putting the egge in the drawer, put the large end up. Lay the thermometer on the eggs, the bulb lying between and touching the eggs.

Have the other end of the thermometer a little the highest. Let me impress on you the importance of keeping the thermometer on the eggs, and the egg that the thermometer touches must be fertile. Yon want to get the heat of the fertile eggs and not of the eggr chamber. The difference between a thermometer lying on the eggs, but the bulb not touching fertile egg. Is several degrees, and right here IB, 1 think, the cause of a great many fatluret With incubators.

"After putting the eggs Into the machine, do not turn them or cool them for three days. On the fourth day take the eggs out gently, do not jar them any more than you can slbly help. Now ia the critical time, as life has started. To sprinkle them, take a clean cloth, dip it in lukewarm water, squeeze it out, and draw It gently over the eggs. Turn them gently, very gently, and sprinkle the other side the same.

when putting them back you find that the back part of your eg-g chamber is hotter than the front, reverse your tray night md morning; that is, turn your truy end lor end. See that the water in the moisture pans Is warm. Two minutes is suHiciunt time to tend the in in the morning. Do not touch thorn until night, then sprinkle the same as before, but leave them out a few minutes to cool. "A hen after sitting a week or ten days loses much of her natural heat, from causes ot necessary to mention here, but, at the same time, changes are taking place the egg.

Circulation of the blood has commenced, so there is fjenerated in the egg a vital heat that balances the loss 01 temperature sustained by the hen. So taking tbi-i as a guide we must reduce the temperature of the egg chamber as the heat in the egg increases. "The nearer the time for batching the more moisture the eggs need. On the last two days keep the wator In the moisture pans quite warm. When the chicks begin to pick the shell, keep the machine closed, and do not disturb them at this time.

Nearly every one wants to pull out the drawer aud watch the little fellows work out, but don't do it, or you will chill them so they will never get out. 'if you find at any time that the beat baa run up to 110 deg. or so, take the drawer out uid give the ugga a good sprinkling. By following these directions I have no doubt but you will hare success." We do not indorse the recommendation not to turn the eggs for three or four days, but, on tho contrary, think they should be turned oftencr them than at any other time. Yet we may bo rong, and the correspondent correct.

Tho experience of those who operate noubatorsis worth more than theory, and we hope all who are interested in the matter Of incubation will inform us how they oper ate them.
