Thursday, at Allison and Georoe beloved husband of Joan MANZANO, N. Mex. (UPI) Eight Peace Corps trainees missing on a hike through the Manzano Mountains in central New Mexico were found late Monday on the western side of the mountain range. The search for the eight began Sunday when they failed to return from a four-day training hike which began near Belen, N. a few miles from where they were found.

The eight, four men and four women, were discovered by a U. S. Forest Service assistant ranger, Doug Jones. The eight, undergoing training at the Peace Corps center at the University of New Mexico at Albuquerque, were immediately taken to a nearby ranch prior to being whisked to Albuquerque by corps officials. The missing hikers were found as Forest Service officials and volunteers raced darkness, falling temperatures and a threatening storm which promised a all predicted to hit five inches.

Benqert (nee Eckerle), devoted ta trier of George (Buddvl, Terry The Peace Corpsmen, undergoing their indoctrination at the university, went into the area on the "outward bound" phase of their training Thursday. Forest Service officials said the eight started into the mountains Thursday but at some time during the hike were blocked by heavy snows. They decided to turn around and return to the base camp where they entered the rugged Man-zanos, officials added. Ranger Jones found them seven miles east of a highway which parallels the southern portion of the Manzanos. Volunteers from the Albuquerque 1 1 1 zens Band Radio Association and Forest Service officials began the hunt late Sunday.

Two helicopters joined the search Monday. When the eight were discovered, the searchers had swung their efforts south toward the little town of Mountainair, south of Manzano, the town where the eight were to complete their hike. The case of John J.

Dietz against the City of Toledo would have given the high court an opportunity to further amplify its interpretation of the Sixth Amendment right to counsel. The court has ruled this right applies in criminal proceedings in state courts as well as Federal courts. And in its June, 1964, Esco-bedo decision, the court extended the protection to police interrogation. However, writing for the majority, then Associate Justice Arthur J. Goldberg specified the ruling applies "when the process shifts from investigatory to accusatorywhen its focus Is on the accused and its purpose is to elicit a confession Attorneys for Dietz said in asking the court to reverse his conviction on a charge of driving while under the influence of liquor: "There is in the minds of many courts, as well as prosecutors and defense attorneys, serious questions, doubts and confusion as to a defendant's absolute right to counsel, at least where counsel is requested, during the inquisltory "period immediately after arrest.

Until the court amplifies its view, the attorneys said, "the court of the civil states and the various Federal courts will continue to slosh aimlessly in the confusion that has been left in the wake of the Escobedo Dietz, a businessman, was taken into custody after his auto struck a warning cone in a street under repair. Even before interrogation began, he asked to get in touch with his lawyer, but uas turned down. Even- Tuesday, from 4 to 6 and 7 to 9 P. M. Funeral Wednesday.

126 Dorchester Ave. Friends Moonshine Drying Up Special To The Enquirer ATLANTA, Ga. A small army of Federal, state and local officers is putting the pinch on the Georgia moonshiner where it hurts most his outlet in the big city. So far, almost all of 165 bench warrants have been served on the "white North Georgia area. This massive swoop is the icing on an "Operation Dry-up" campaign that began in late October when Federal revenue agents began looking behind every clump of woods in the area in search of the natural prey, the moonshiners.

Destroyed so far have been 700 stills, representing a Federal tax fraud of $5 million. Meanwhile, back in the city, undercover agents were gathering liquid evidence at "shot houses" and speakeasies. Laboratory tests Indicate that the customer even while paying as much as $1.50 for a drink of moonshinewas getting no cock-tall-hour bargain. Revenue aynts said rubbing alcohol was used in most cases to "stretch" the moonshine. They found in 99 of the samples traces of lead-salts poisoning, which 14 years ago this holiday ml.
