Wsshateria Opened by lack Donalds Mr. and Mrs. Jack Donald will open a coin operated washateria on Monday, June in their building next door their hardware store, in Brookshire. Mr. and Mrs.

Donald say hat they have felt the need in this area for such a business for some time, and will be answering several requests. They have installed 10 Philco Bendix commercial type washers and 2 driers, and when business warrants, will install more. The "Thrifty Wash" will be open from 7 a.m. until 10 p.m. until further notice.

Here are just some of the things you have been doing since your high school graduation: Eva Belle Beckendorf Longenbaugh was married following graduation on August 2, 1934 to George E. Longenbaugh, and thus became a rice farmer's wife. They farmed rice north of Katy, then at Brookshire where they built a new home and adopted 2 sons, Geo. H. and Edwin H.

Longenbaugh who are both graduates of Katy High. They are now the proud grandparents of a granddaughter, Virginia Gail, the child of their son George and wife, who live in Cypress. In 1954 the Geo. Longen- baughs built a new brick home in Katy, after selling their home in Brookshire. Eva lists her pleasures as her family and friends.

She is a member of the Katy Methodist Church, a past treasurer of the WSCS, and a past worker in the Junior. Dept, of the Sunday School. Leon Sturm is a field au- construction firms. Leon married Marie Habacek on June 22, 1941, and the couple own their home in Brookshire. They have four children, Lynn who is 16, Rue Ann 7, Glenda 3 and the baby Leon Jr.

who is 8 months old. His hobbies? Mrs. Sturm says that she knows for sure that he enjoys deer hunting and fish- ing, whenever there is time. At present he is working on a job in Kingsville and makes it home on W. C.

Summer Recreation Program To Begin June 8th The Katy Summer Recreation Program is scheduled to begin Monday, June 8. The program will be supervised by Gordon Brown, Fred Ruland, and Joe Bright and they will be assisted by Roy Wiesner, and Peggy Talley, Katy High School students. Activities to be included in the program this summer are: Swimming, skating, tennis, and baseball. Admission prices for swimming will be 15 cents and 30 cents for school age children and adults respectively.

The admission price for skating will be 25 cents per session. No charge will be made for those individuals who furnish their own skates. The tentative schedule for the program is as listed Swimming; 9:30 Beginners Class Brookshire-Pattison Beginners Class Katy boys. Beginners Class Katy girls. 3:20 Elementary School Swimmers.

50 Swimmers All Groups. 5:10 Beginners Class Adults. 9:00 Swimmers All Groups. The pool will be closed on Wednesday night of each week. Tennis: Each morning Monday through Friday.

Skating: 9:00 Tuesday and Thursday evenings. Katy Jr. Deputies Start League Play Monday, June 1 The Tri-County Babe Ruth League will open the league baseball season Monday night, June 1 with the Katy Jr. Deputy team playing Rosenberg at Rosenberg. On Thursday, June 4th, Katy will have a home game, play ing Richmond at the Katy High School field, 8:00 p.m.

The Tri-County league teams will play each Monday and Thursday evening. There will be a practice game with Sugarland here in Katy this Friday, May 29 at 8:00 p.m. There are 8 divisions in the Babe Ruth League, Dist. 6, including Bryan, El Campo, Wharton, Rockdale and the Tri-County League. The Tri- County League with headquarters at Weimar has 3 divisions, a total of 17 teams.

Katy is in the East Div. and will play East Bernard, Richmond, Rosenberg, Sugarlane and Sealy teams. Within this division, an all-star team wil be selected to compete in the winner will advance to sta the state to regional and the regional winner to the national playoffs. Aside from those playoffs, in order to pick a Tri-County champion team, the 2 top teams in each of the 3 divisions, Central, West and East, will engage in a crisscross tournament with the final winner receiving the league's trophy. An added feature is the queen's race.

Each team will choose a queen. When the division all-star team is selected, the queen of the team which ended the regular season in top spot will go on as division aucen in the district playoff. If her div. wins the I playoff, she becomes the dist. I queen and so on; as a team advances so does the queen I representing it.

Little Leaguers Wanning Tri-County Little Leaguers are getting "squared away" for league play which will officially begin on June 8. Some of the games played last week were Bill Esterling's Brookshire Cubs who came out on top with a score of 4 to Bill Thurman's Katy Lions 2 last Friday night; Brookshire Bears who ended up ahead with a score of 4 to 2 for Glenn Thompson's Alief Team, that game played at Alief; and the Brookshire Cubs defeated the Brookshire Bears 12 to 1 on Saturday. Tonight the Brookshire Cubs will play the Katy Bears in a pre-season game. WEAR A V. F.

W. BUDDY Holiday Notice The merchants of Katy will observe MEMORIAL DAY Saturday, May 30 as a holiday. You are reminded to do your shopping accordingly. Members of the shop class at the Katy school and their instructor, Maple Pollard, visited Harvey Johnson at Furniture 2 Tuesday and Johnson demonstrated to by step the installation of formica to a table top. Mr. Johnson, who said he enjoyed having the class visit him very much, is a former student of Mr. Pollards.

Wreath Placed At Cemetery For Memorial Day A wreath will be placed on the entrance of the Katy Magnolia Cemetery on Memorial Day in memory of all those who gave their life for our country. Taking part in this service will be V. F. W. Auxiliary president, Mrs.

On Tuesday, some 190 persons had male reservations to attend the meeting this Saturday, May 30th. This is the greatest number of acceptances the Alumni has had for a meeting thus far. The graduates who live in the nearby area should come to welcome those who travel far to see their classmates. The meeting will begin with an informal reception and registration in the recreation room of the school Saturday at 7:00 p.m. with dinner served at 8:00 p.m.

A quintet composed of Shirley Wilkinson, Laura Ann Miller, Patricia Muske, Jimmy L. Caldwell and Jack F. Rhodes, Jr. will sing "Graduation Day" and Shirley Wilkinson will sing a solo, "May You Always." Jimmy Caldwell will make the presentation of the class gift. The acceptance of the gift and introduction of Dr.

Landrum will be made by Supt. James E. Taylor. The senior awards will be presented by the High School principal, Jack F. Rhodes and Melvin Scott, President of the School Board will present the diplomas to the graduating seniors.

The processional and recessional will be played by Mary At the Pattison High School, Dr. W. G. McAlexander, Assistant to the Adminstra- tion, Wharton County Junior College, will be the puest speaker at the Commencement Exercise which will be held at 8 o'clock Friday evening, May 29. The Valedictory and Salutatory addresses will be given by Paul Mueller and Douglas Harrison resnective- ly- The Eighth Grade Promotional Exercises will be helvl Friday morning May 29 at 10 o'clock in the Pattison School Auditorium.

Special music will be rendered by the Choral group. Awards for the year will be given at this time..
