Lest tee forget To the Editor: In reading some letters to Teen-Ager I find that people request pictures and stories about various musical groups local and national.

Also, your new music columnist started a feud when he backed the San Francisco-type music. But lest we forget February 7, 1964 a group ball game but afterwards as well. I am sure anyone would have been aware of this spirit If they would have awaited for the return of the football team to the locker after the game. As the team returned to the lockers from their usual prayer at the grotto they met hundreds of Eldermen lining the walks back to the locker room. This was a sign that the school was with the team In defeat as well as they are in victory.

This is the Elderman I know. He has a loud voice at the game but displays spirit of another sense. They cared enough to stay around and show the team they were still with them. I know this because I am an Elder football player and an Elderman. Tim McLaughlin '70 Elder High School.

To the Editor: In a recent Issue of the Teen-Ager (Oct. 5) an alumnus of St. Bill Williams praised the Elder school spirit. As an alumnus of Elder I' wish to thank him for his compliment, but also caution him about his noted disloyalty to his school. It is an excellent trait for a person such as Bill to have enough insight to recognize that some people can be better, especially an opponent.

However, Bill, stick with your alma mater and believe. Mr. Williams' letter was then answered by ridiculous statements and sour grapes on October 12. The seating arrangement in the Elder Stadium has nothing to do with spirit. What J.

B. Schmidt stated is true to an extent. The visitors to Elder are at a certain disadvantage, but this Is small and can be overcome by good cheering and strong spirit. The fact that this was an Elder home game has nothing to do with the Elder spirit or should it have bothered true St. X.

fans' cheering. Elder also plays away games and al school by only looking at the rock-throwing minority. True spirit Is In the Individual, Dick Cronley. So If all those "900" Individuals had 'true spirit', Mr. Williams would have surely heard some of their cheering.

Was the reason Bill didn't hear because the X. fans gave up after a while and really didn't keep trying. The truth or the matter is that the Elder Spirit (PURPLE POWER) is tremendous. Win or lose, all Panther teams are cheered by proud fans. Fans who really care.

I close with this one fact, WE'RE FROM ELDER, WE'RE NO. 1. Lou Lieblg Elder, Class of "68 Marian College Indianapolis, Ind. To the Editor: In the October 12th issue of the Teen-Ager there appeared "Letters to the Editor" which have simply downgraded the students and spirit of Elder High School. The Panther student body has publicly been referred to as enemy" and has been accused of having "thrown rocks and spat upon the fans and buses from St.

Xavier High The Elder Panthers are not the enemy; they are, however, fine rivals and do pose a stiff opposition to other GCL and area athletic squads. As for immature conduct, a 1 with an enrollment of 1900 does not claim to be per-, feet, but we're working on it. Elder spirit has been termed "a shouting bout" that is loudest merely because the student body outnumbers most and because the Elder cheering section Is concentrated and not thrown "helter-skelter all across the small side of the stadium stands." Cincinnati, Elder spirit is this: it is a solemn-faced student body paying tribute to more than 10 graduates who have given their lives In Vietnam; It is a senior class working feverishly to collect money and food so they can send packages to fighting men halfway around the world; It is an entire student body united as one in worshipping God at opening session Mass. "Goody-goody," you say? Well, there's more. It Is a group of students who gave up their Christmas holidays to build a church in Appalachia; It is a large number of students who contribute their time and talent to tutoring less-gifted children all over the city; it is a basketball team, their 23 game win streak broken, congratulating their conquerors at mid-court and wishing them future success while some 1200 students remain in their seats, proudly singing their Alma Mater; it is the ability to bounce back from these heartbreaking setbacks; it is busloads of students who witnessed the Panthers upset Moeller in the pouring rain at Sycamore Stadium last year; it is a gymnasium that really wouldn't need seats be cause- Elder students never sit for a basketball game; it is a cheering section that gives its all (this is why It is so overpowering) even when the cause Is seemingly hopeless, and a football team that can win even when the clock says that the game Is over; it is a senior class donating money, blood, and most Importantly, prayers, to a dying classmate.

These are some examples Of "PANTHER there are others. One has to be a part of Elder to be a part of them, to be a part of "the best thing in town." With great pride, Greg Noble '70 Elder High School More on spirit To the Editor: After reading the letter concerning the school spirit of St. Xavier and Elder, we felt that a clarification was in order. The Impression was created that there was something lacking In the enthusiasm of the Xavier students. Several things might have contributed to this.

Elder has a student body of 1894. while Xavier's enrollment is 1230. At the game the Xavier fans were not given a special cheering section, but were spread throughout the stands, whereas Elder and Seton students occupied their own section, district from other Elder fans. But let us look on the positive side of the issue. Ninety percent (90 of the Xavier student body was in attendance.

And since many of our students have jobs in order to attend this school, this percentage seems significant. The Xavier faculty had an almost perfect attendence record also. The school rented eleven buses to form a "bus caravan" to and from the game. Does this show a deficiency in BOMBER spirit? We think noti Sincerely, Jim Kelly Co-chairman of Publicity SAINT XAVIER STUDENT COUNCIL A plug To the Editor, My name Is Michael Redmond. I go to Courter Technical High School.

I am a night school student. Recently, at Courter, a very special class was started. This class is the only one of its kind. It specializes in teaching anyone over 18 years of age, almost anything they need brushing up in. If someone is a poor reader, speller, or anything like that, this class will def initely help that person.

The night school principal, Mr. Precht is doing his best to let everyone know about this class, and I commend him for all the work he has put forth, along with the day school principal, Mr. Lowe, and all the school staff that has had part in it. But these men can only tell the grownups about this class, while a teen-ager, am able to write to someone who can do more for this class than anyone else The Teen-Ager. The classes are from 3:45 To The Editor: Man, I've got to say something about how fantastically great the concert at Music Hall was Big Brother and the Holding Company plus Janis Joplin.

Everybody left the place practically speechless. How can you say anything after applauding for about 12 minutes and two encores? Everybody felt it, but there were just no words to describe it. The turnout was also fantastic! It at least shows how conservative Cincinnati has meen starving its youth. It has been unfortunate that kids had to wait so long for this breakthrough. It was surprising to see how many left their parents' conservatism and the city's old outlooks to do their own thing.

along with many others, I'm sure, would like to thank WEBN and Squack Productions for bringing us the kind of music we have wanted to hear. Now, if it's possible, we're awaiting another concert. What did you say Michael Xanadu? Maybe Steppen-wolf? Thanks again! Laura Manifold, 4270 Race Cincinnati. (Hang onto your hair, Laura! Stcppenivolf has been booked to come here November 3 by promoter Roger A br am son. The scene will also be Music Hall, and curtain time is 8 p.

m. How about that for an answer to your plea? Ed) A defense To The Editor: I am writing in defense of Jose Feliclano and his rendition of our beloved Star Spangled Banner. This young man did what he felt In his heart. As a result he has been accused of being everything from a hippie to a traitor. Why is it In a country as great as Amerl-.

ca, this man is allowed to be put to public ridicule, merely for doing something different? Mr. Feliclano changed the melody of our nation's song, not the lyrics I would proudly stand beside this man! The American Dream is nothing more than a nightmare, If the Jose Feliclanos who come to our shores are forbidden the right to express their love for this country in their own way. We have fought wars past and present and I thought freedom of expression was one of the things we are fighting for! I guess I was wrong. James E. Tucker, 3218 Warsaw Cincinnati.

They're proud To The Editor: I just finished reading the letters in "Teen-Ager" written by the St. students. We students at ELDKR know some situations of poor taste do exist nfter some football games. However, this behavior is apparent in all schools and is usually caused by the type of student who goes to school from 8 a. m.

until 2:30 p. m. and participates In no extra-curricular activities. I am sure St. has the same type student.

A true Elderman has spirit not only at the Joot- landed in New York City and changed the course of music history, many young lives, and opened up a new avenue for non-conformity and rebellion. Now the industry is saturated with groups and singers, many of them sounding and looking about the same. But we seem to have forgotten that group who launched the new movement, and even now show us new ways with the pop music field. I was Just 15 when this group, arrived on the scene. Since then my life has changed in many ways.

During these years that group has created mob scenes, a great deal of excitement in the music industry, and a lot of great music. Even today they still create the best and most diversified music in the pop music field. But, I'm sorry to say, many of their fans have deserted them. The Industry calls It the fickle public. Now I'm not advocating a return of the craze that all of us went through for these past few years.

I Just ask people to once again notice this group which started it all. The music field will never be the same and will continue to progress, thanks to this group. They opened new vistas of music for other artists to improve on. An entire gen a 1 1 should lift their glasses in a toast to the four young men from Liverpool The Beatles! Robert D. We always have a great turnout for all games, such as the Moeller game last year. Everybody remained for the entire away game while the rain poured down. WTiat cheering section do you know of that would stay in the Cincinnati Gardens seats for 20 minutes cheering "We're No. 1," after the end of a regional game their team had just lost to Hamilton Garfield? ELDER DID. Dale Kristof must be kidding when he talks about St.

X's "New Spirit." A true fan, no matter where he sits, will cheer for his team. I believe In courtesy to adults, but a game belongs to the teams and cheering crowds. So why didn't you get the grown-ups to join in, Dale? If St. X. had to depend on people like you to Instill spirit, spirit would never exist.

Take a hint, Dale, don't bother trying to be a cheerleader in your senior year. I wish to apologize to all Xavier followers for the incidents after the game.
