Nimble," a Taft Broadcasting Co. half-hour series produced at Channel 12 and appearing on all five Taft stations, recently won a national Action For Children's Television This is the second year that Cin-cinnati has been part of the Columbus -Dayton -Cincinnati chapter of the National Academy Of Television Arts And Sciences.

Before 1975. the nearest Emmy chapter was Columbus. Friday night, the 1975-76 Emmy awards were made at Columbus and televised over the state public TV network. As you might have seen on Channel 48, here is a box score of how 27 Emmys were presented to talent at stations in the five cities: Eighteen went to Columbus, including 11 to WBNS-TV. Five went to nearby Dayton, Ohio.

Four came to Cincinnatians, including three to VLWT personnel and one to WCPO-TV. No one at WCET-TV, WKRC-TV nor WXIX-TV was recognized. ILIE AGOPIAN, Channel 5 tal-ented cinematographer, was honored for the July 29, 1975 "Bob Braun's Alpine Holiday" special. Producers Joe Lewin and Tom Ash-well were cited for "To Beat The Devil," a July 26. 1975 half-hour Channel 5 special about a balloon race across the Devil's Triangle.

Lewin also got an Emmy for that Avco Broadcasting-Channel 5 "Ohio State Fair" mini-documentary last August as the producer. Producer Ron Giles of WCPO-TV was singled out for his December 21, 1975 "Music For The Seasons" yule-tide special. IN BREAKING down the Dayton Emmys, WLWD-TV received one for Phil Donahue's show which featured Washington Post managing editor Ben Bradlee. The Donahue show, owned by Avco Broadcasting last year but now by Multimedia Of Ohio, has been produced at WQN-TV, Chicago, since April, 1974. In Dayton, news powerhouse WHIO-TV went without any recognition.

Yet, WLWD-TV was cited for 11 p.m. news film of a shooting. Channel 2 was also cited for a children's special, "Family Tree: Beyond Words" and an un-named series by award. Its quality has sparked syndication throughout the U.S. WLWT's "Young People's Specials." partially underwritten by MGM Television and Meredith Broadcasting, recently won a Free-dom's Foundation prize for its "Sacajewa" program.

However, The Enquirer has learned that the only YPS finalist in the regional Emmy nominations was "The Selling." LAST YEAR, in Cincinnati's first year as a regional chapter member, there was an absence of nominations by the local stations. All nominations must be made by chapter members. Despite the fact the Friday night Emmy awards did not reveal it, Cincinnati's fame as a regional production center Is still very much alive. Braun's 90-minute week-day show has come up with many standout musical-talk segments. Channel 9's news is among the best of all CBS-affiliated stations and its public affairs "Impact" program has had some very procative interviews.

WCPO-TV's other public affairs programs have won national recognition. LAST YEAR, the Emmys recognized Channel 12's news "Trouble-shooter" segments. There have been similar pieces on Channel 5's news that should have been considered. The box score at the beginning of this piece Indicates something is still lacking in the regional Emmy awards. It can't be blamed to the fact that I declined invitations to participate in the Judging or attend the Friday night banquet.

Last June, my column was topped, "Regional Emmys Need Guidelines." I see no change in feeling if the breakdown of Friday Emmys at the start is a proper Indication. three-city chapter has to clean up its act," I wrote almost a year ago. IF EXCELLENCE is to be recognized in television creativity in three major cities, it must be done on an equitable basis. Otherwise, many members of the academy are wasting their money and their time.
