Gift wrappings are still on the floor and the children have already worn the newness off their Christmas toys You sigh as you wonder what will keep them busy these precious holiday hours But Marilyn Taggart over at the Mountain Fuel Supply Co has the answer For as much a part of the 4 '4- holiday season as holly wreaths a Santa Claus is the gingerbread house she can tell us about Ann Ward To give your youngsters one of your own Marilyn told us bow she made this gingerbread house complete with a snow-covered yard and a Christmas star tree The beauty of such a delectable house is its value for holiday parties The table centerpiece is solved and you TTWiR have- established a most enviable reputation as an ingenious host Gingerbread House First of all trace on paper your house design You must include a front back 2 sides 2 roof pieces 4-chimney pieces and 1 door (See sketches) The over-all size of Marilyn's house measured 7 inches by 8 inches by 7 inchet 2 cups flour 1- cup sugar 2 eggs beaten teapsoon vanilla 3 cups sifted flour 34 teaspoon soda teapsoon salt 1 teaspoon baking powder Cream butter work in sugar and add eggs and vanilla Sift together three times the flour soda salt and baking powder Add alternately by thirds using a stroke count of 50 50 123 Chill and cut out 7-star cookies in graduated sizes ranging from 8 inches to 2 inches Cut seven 2-inch circles to be used between stars Arrange all on cookie sheets and bake Remove immediately to wire rack for put dowel stick through center of each making a small hole Beat thoroughly 1 egg white and 1 cup powdered sugar with green coloring Frost star with icing and sprinkle with multicolored sprills Support a slender round stick (a dowel stick from your butcher will do) firmly on a square or round base so that it will stand Cover with red ribbon and bow Slip the largest star on stick and anchor with frosting Next place one small round cookie on stick then the next size star and so on alternating points of stars to get the effect of tree branches and anchoring to stick with frosting between cookies Place small 2-inch star on edge for star on top of tree re 4 4 AMA Sift together the flour baking powder salt ginger cinnamon and cloves Combine molasses brown sugar egg and melted shortening Combine the two mixtures and chill one hour Roll dough on the back of cookie sheets Cover with paper patterns and trace Remove extra dough (Scraps may be rerolled for other parts) Bake at 375 for 10-12 minutes Remove to cake racks and cool thoroughly Melt 1 cup of sugar and use this to hold pieces together when coin-birdng them into a house Beat- until fluffy and thick 1 egg white and 1 cup of powdered sugar Tint as desired and use to decorate the house Marilyn placed her gingerbread house on a large tray Around the edge of the tray she built a fence made of Biscotti or Italian wine sticks The large Christmas star tree truly took our fancy and this is cleverly made In sections IChristmas Star Tr 1 cup butter Om 1 ne 014Mti 110t 'sm SUNDAY DECEMBER 25 1949 H5.
