The WPFB AM and FM stations In Middletown were off the air for six hours after the station's antenna was damaged. WKKY-FM, Erlanger, KyH also was knocked off the air due to a power failure.

Earlier- in the day a fire gutted WKKY's studios. mmmmmmmammmim are equipped to receive UHF. Increased sales of adapters for television sets to receive UHF. Overmyer's first station, WDHO-TV, Toledo, went on the air in May. Besides the Cincinnati operation, Overmyer plans stations for the Pittsburgh, Atlanta.

Enquirer TV Columnist WHO IS this Daniel Over-myer? What is the Over-myer Communi cations What will the Over-myer Network be? Daniel H.

Overmyer is a huskily-built, bespectacled, crew-cut warehouseman. He came out of the Army In 1947 at the age of 22 and borrowed $5000 to build a warehouse In Toledo, Ohio. A couple of years later, he built and operated a second warehouse In By 1954 there were even branches. By the end of 1965, there were to be 55 Overmyer warehouses In the United States including a major warehouse operation in Sharonville. His executive staff Is small.

It numbers 49 men. The average age of the staff Is under 40 years. Daniel H. Overmyer is riding high. Business is booming and It was not inconceivable that he could retire, clip coupons and build warehouses.

The profit, was good. The business- was sound. SO DAN OVERMYER went out and got Into UHF television. "People tend to have a bad taste in their mouth about UHF after what happened In the early 1950V says John Bechtel. creative services of the Overmyer Communications Co.

What "happened" in the early 1950's was that a number of UHF stations went on the air, took a brutal economic beating from their VHF competitors, and, of course, wound up in bankruptcy. THE RAPIDS were treacherous. UHF commercial television was an area that sound businessmen easily Ignored. Why did Overmyer do it? "The answer." says Dan Overmyer, "is simple." "I strongly believe that a group of at least six or seven stations in a major market, in the nation's top markets can flourish and be profitable, and, and In so doing can perform unique public services to their communities. "We went into this area admittedly In the past fraught with disappointments for good and compelling reasons.

We KNOW that UHF is a solid investment. Furthermore, the nature of our other businesses are such that because of depreciation and other considerations, we tlcally all they cared about the grass." IN A BASEMENT room of the Children Aid Center, the girls are skipping through "double Dutch" Jump ropes. The timing Is serious, punctuated with giggles and laughter and tin whistle screams. Every once In awhile, one of them calls over to pretty Veida McMullen: "Hey, Miss Veida watch this!" The 20-year-old Miss McMullen smiles and waves. "That's fine, Suzy." "ALL THEY want Is some attention," the Fort Valley, coed explained.

"And when you know their names it comes as a shock to them. When I leave every day. the hem of my dress Is all dirty from little hands gripping It." Ludewlg and Miss McMullen are Belolt College students spending a summer in what is known as a "field term" away from their Wisconsin campus. They and eight other Belolt students are working for the society In centers scattered throughout Manhattan's poverty and slum areas, where children's chances of rising above a ghetto viewpoint are slim. They work four weeks In the city and then spend six weeks at the society's summer camps In upper New York state, their faces will be familiar to many of the children, most of whom have never been out of the city before.

THE FIELD TERM for Belolt College's 1200 students Is an unusual approach to undergraduate study. It offers each student a chance to see how the rest of the world gets by, in activities that stretch from running an excursion boat to assisting scientists. But these 10 chose Manhattan and the 113-year-old, privately-funded society that still lives up to Its founding creed save the children. The hours are rough and the experience is sobering to these students from middle class homes. Their activities Include play, supervision, teaching preschoolers and interviewing parents, and secretarial or filing chores In the medical and dental programs.

This is why we're Investing $10 million plus on its future. "The time," says Overmyer, "has come for UHF television. These are the reasons." Passage of the all-channel receiver set law by the Congress in April, 1964. This means that all television sets shipped in Interstate commerce must be able to receive channels 14 through 83 as well as the 13 VHF channels. The recent Federal Communications Commission ruling that community antenna television company planning to go into operation will now have to secure FCC approval In open hearings.

The boom in color television is making the VHF-only sets obsolescent. Technological improvements in UHF reception. Greater variety of programming than the previous UHF stations had at their disposal.
