Sherelentlessly explorednewavenuesoflearning for her students, andherrecent ‘Science Friday’additionwas ahitwithherclasses.Andrea wasaconsummateprofessional andalwaysavailabletohelpher teachingcolleagues.Andreahad aspectacularcareerasagymnast andspentcountlesshoursinthe gym inTexas,whereshegrewup. She earnedAll-Americanhonors twice asaYellLeaderatBaylor University.Shewasalsoaproud memberoftheinfamousNoZe Brotherhood.AgraduateofBay- lorUniversity(BAandaBaylor Cheerleader)andtheUniversity ofGeorgia(MA),shecombined aClassicalscholar’srigorousex- actitude andaSouthernwoman’s grace anddecorum.Shewas belovedforhersharpandspon- taneouswitthatfoundjoyin life’sabsurdities.Athomeinthe ancientandmodernworldsalike, shecouldfindasmuchaesthetic pleasureinAristotleandanepi- sodeof“Glee.”Andshewasal- waysbeautifullydressed.Andrea enjoyed aglassofMerlotandher stack ofbedsidebooks,whichshe appropriatelycalledher“nest ofliteracy,”revealingherwide- ranginginterestsandpassion forlearningthatwentwellbe- yondtheclassroom.Shewasa self-described “word-person,”a protectorandproponentofwell- wroughtsentencesthatwithstand thetestoftime.Sheimpartedher devotiontoloveofwordsandlan- guagetoherchildren,whomshe lovedbeyondourunderstanding. Herbrightsmileandkind,loving soulwillliveforeverinthehearts ofthosewhoknewandlovedher. Andreawillbedearlymissedby herfamilyandfriends–including hersweetrescuedogsSmarty andAnni–andbyherstudents, bothpastandpresent,whocarry forthherlegacy.Weareallbetter personsforhavingknownher.
