William Earl Morris A4 LANSING Pastor Emeritus Angelene Lois Trice, aged 81, passed away peacefully in her home in Lansing, Michigan on Thursday, February 8, 2024, sur- rounded by her family. She was born June 30, 1942, in Villa Ridge, Il- linois.

Celebration of Life for Pastor Emeritus Trice will be a two-day celebration at Taberna- cle of David Church, 2645 West Holmes Road, Lansing, Michi- gan on Friday, February 23rd Visitation 6:00 p.m. with Family from p.m., and Celebration Sat- urday, February 24th 10:00 a.m. Angelene Trice, Pastor Emeritus extensive testimony, is hazing resulting in death. The felony charge carries a maximum sentence of up to 15 years in prison. All nine of the defendants in Ingham County charged in connection with death face the hazing result- ing in death charge.

Those are likely the criminal cases in state history to in- clude that charge. As of Feb. 5, the State Court Adminis- trative said its data that goes back decades shows only nine cases involv- ing the hazing resulting in death charge. Edwar Zeineh, Lansing-based defense attorney, made clear from the opening moments of the preliminary hearing that be challenging not only whether his client was culpable, but whether the felony charge was con- stitutional. As hearing headed to- ward its conclusion, Greenwalt gave her indication that strategy might have worked.

Instead of ruling on whether prosecutors had met their bur- den of proof to advance the case toward trial, she ordered both sides to writ- ten arguments on a number of issues. She gave Zeineh three weeks to detail his argument as to why the statute is unconstitutional, which will be followed by a response from Ingham County Prosecutor John And Greenwalt gave prosecutors a deadline to explain their theory about exactly how Cao caused death, to which Zeineh will then re- spond. One person is awaiting trial in con- nection with death of Nguyen, who was a 21-year-old junior. Any resolution to case, or the prosecutions facing seven others, arrive soon. Is the charge constitutional? The statute in question went into ef- fect in 2004.

The year before, Northville middle school student Garret Drogosch broke a leg and other injuries when he was forced to participate in grade hit an annual tradition held on the last day of football practice. The analysis of the bill cited re- search on the number of elementary, high school and college athletes who faced hazing. It also detailed a number of hazing incidents around the country, including a University of Michigan chapter of the Sigma Chi fraternity that had been kicked campus. In that incident, a pledge kidney failure from a hazing incident Attorney Edwar Zeineh, left, argues for his client Ethan Cao, on Jan. 18 in Judge Molly Hennessey's 54B District courtroom in East Lansing.
