The poll said 8 percent planned or leaned toward independent candidate Christina Campbell-Cline of Wichita, and 15 percent were completely undecided. The respondents described themselves as likely to go to the polls Tuesday. The margin of error was plus or minus 3 percent.

The newspaper said its earlier polls showed Finney with a 48 percent to 35 percent lead over Hayden in early September, and a 37 percent to 37 percent tie in early October. "A fight began and Munster, er, Mr.

Lilley, apparently took the wallet, claiming that the driver shouldn't have been paid-" The actor, who played the werewolf-like son of Herman and Lily Munster on the show, and John Patrick Sullivan, 33, of Chicago were charged with robbery of the driver at a gasoline station in suburban Glen Ellyn. Lilley was released on $1,000 bail. He told DuPage County Judge Bonnie Wheaton he makes a living attending conventions and making personal appearances as his former television character. Now in syndication, "The Munsters" ran from 1964 to 1966. Bruce Karstadt of Lindsborg is to speak on "From Little Sweden to Snoose Boulevard." Farmers (Continued from Page 1) soil' because you have one minute to work on it before it is too wet again," she said. Germany's educational system for farmers is also different.

To receive certification as a farmer, an applicant must spend two years working on different farms to learn such skills as tractor driving, harvesting, fertilizing and milking. They are also required to attend school to learn about farm economics. To graduate, farmers must write 20 reports and pass oral, written and practical exams. German farmers work with fewer government subsidies and strict limitations on production of some goods. Low-paid farm laborers receive $6.50 to $7 per hour, she said.

Stockling was also impressed by other differences in the two cultures. When Dr. Nickell took her through a Burger King drive-through, at first she thought it was a joke. "I couldn't believe what I saw," she said. "We got this bag of food for driving and eating all together." She said there are no four-way stops on German streets, and she found the driving speed on American highways to be incredibly slow.

"Americans have a lot of very comfortable things," she said. "No German would think properly about this." For example, she cited armrests and cupholders in cars and carry-out people at grocery stores. Stockling said many changes have taken place in Germany since reunification. At the border near her university, 192 people had been shot while trying to escape to the west across barbed wire and mines in front of tower guards. "I could hardly believe it when they said the borders are open," she said.

"I have been this year in the eastern part several times. They are building it up and working on everything." Stores in western Germany have run short on stock since East Germans were able to come buy. She said many East Germans have a lot of savings because they earned good money and had nowhere to spend it. Government subsidies kept the prices of rent and food artificially cheap, and some items were not available, she said. Toilet paper had to be bought on the black market, but bread was so cheap farmers were buying it and feeding it to their hogs, she said.

She said some former East Germans are having trouble adjusting to the west because they lack job training on modern equipment and can't keep up with the faster pace of production. Others were agents for the secret service in East Germany and never really worked at the factories where they were stationed. Stockling said she went on a university trip to East Germany about a week before the borders were opened. "There was a big demonstration and people were calling 'Gor- 'Free and 'Away with she said. "You could feel in the atmosphere that something important was going on." (Continued from Page 1) members.

That could explain why Nov. 2 appeared on Frick's order when the documents arrived in the appraiser's office on the same date. Frick hadn't received the order by Saturday. He said he hadn't decided whether to appeal his property's appraised value further by filing a lawsuit in Saline County District Court. "I very definitely feel it was politically motivated," Frick said of the county receiving the order before him.

Ben Frick, a Democrat, and Republican Mike White are vying for the 1st District commission seat in Tuesday's election. Aylward said the board is nonpartisan and would have nothing to gain by supplying the information to the county first. Saline County Appraiser Jim Headrick said he wouldn't have been aware of the order's arrival except that a radio reporter had been calling to check on the case. Frick was late in paying the second half of his 1989 taxes, in part because he was appealing his property's appraised values. He said he also was short of funds because of medical expenses incurred when a daughter was hurt in an accident.
