San Antonio College Foundation has announced the date of a major event this Fall to honor the late Hilmer Lodge, the founder of Mt. SAC Relays and the college's first track and field coach. The event, open to the public, will be Saturday, Oct. 23 at the Lodge family's "Condor's Nest" Ranch in Pala, a community in San Diego County. Proceeds from the event, the largest in the Foundation's history, will benefit the Mt.

SAC Stadium Renovation plan. Upon completion, the stadium will be named the Hilmer Lodge Stadium. The college stadium, considered on the finest athletic facilities in Southern California, has twice been the Olympic Trials site. Now, after 30 years of continuous use, the entrance at the north end of the facility is aged and in need of renovation. Construction is expected to begin in July, 1989.

"There is so much enthusiasm for the project. Everyone we have contacted, especially in the sports world, have nothing but respect for Mr. Hilmer and his accomplishments," said Freda Weegar, director of the Foundation.
