"The Bank of Mexico has decided to suspend for a brief period its operations in purchase and sales of gold, dollars and foreign exchange against national currency, without this meaning in any way that it abandons the regulation of exchange rates, a function that it will resume as soon as it judges oppor- AMENDMENT CURB FOR F. DEFEATED Administration Wins Round in Reorganization Washington, March 18 -Administration supporters won a crucial victory in Senate consideration of the government reorganization bill, defeating by four votes an amendment designed to deny to the President the final decision in reshuffling bureaus. It was a galling defeat for Senator Wheeler (D-Mont) leader of last summer's successful fight against the President's Supreme Court reorganization. He fought furiously for his amendment, which would have given Congress the right to accept or reject the President's reorganization orders. As the bill stands, Congrese can only override those orders by enacting legislation which would be subject to a veto. The vote against Wheeler's proposal was 43 to 39.

ELECTOCRUTED Slayer of 3 Blames Plight on 'Slight Love Afair' Tucker Farm, March 18 (P) -In the tight little frame execution chamber, Lester Brockelhurst, 24, Galesburg, who murdered three men in the course of a hitch-hiking tour with his sweetheart in the spring of 1937, was put to death today. Unresigned, he blamed his plight on "a slight love voicing his rancor in a 12-minute statement after the electrodes had been strapped to his head. Shortly after Brockelhurst was pronounced dead, his death-house cell-mate of many months, Joe Newt Sims, 30, Saline County farmer and WPA worker, took his place in the chair.

Sims was convicted of killing his young wife with an ax. He was, pronounced dead at 6:56 m. The execution of Brockelhurst: wrote a closing chapter to a sordid saga unfolded to police after he and his traveling companion, Bernice Felton, 18, of Rockford, then an expectant mother, were arrested in New York State last May. Order for- Judgment Against PMA Vacated Centralia, March 18. (P) -Actjoint stipulation, United States District Judge Fred L.

today vacated his order granting the United Electric Coal Company a judgment for $117,000 in damages against the Progressive Miners of America. John R. Kane, general counsel for the union, Ralph F. Lesemann, an attorney for the company, went to Judge Wham's home here to file the stipulation, which also withdrew the company's motion for damages in the case. A joint announcement by the two lawyers said the union and the company had "reached an between them which disposes of all the issues raised by the plaintiff's motion for judgment for damages." Neither of the attorneys would expand on their brief statement.

They deelined to say what were the terms of the agreement. Wheeler Not Interest In President's Job Washington, March 18 (P)- Senator Wheeler (D- Mont.) told the Senate today he was not a candidate for President. McNutt recently came to Washington, and friends who would like to see him in the presidency gave him a big party. Lycoming Judge Dies -President Williamsport, Judge George 18 B. M. March (P) Metzger of the Lycoming County courts died tonight at his home. Judge Metzger, who was 73, nad been ill two years but his condition became critical only last Tuesday.

He was a member of the bar 52 years, and was elected judge in 1981 on the Democratic ticket. Marconi Wills $242,645 London, March 18 UP) -the late Marchese Guglielmo Marconi, Italian radio inventor, left an estate in England of 48,529 ($242,645) to his widow, the Marchesa Maria Cristina, and his daughter, Maria, probate of his will disclosed today. Illicit Liquor Ring's Methods Are Pictured Philadelphia, March 18 -Government witnesses at the trial of 51 persons accused of defrauding the Government of millions of dollars liquor taxes, testified today that group maintained offices in hotels, drug stores and tailor shops. Edward Lavner said that the group also maintained farms in New Jersey and used several garages in Philadelphia ca6 distributing points.

He said he hauled alcohol from Trenton and from a farm in Franklinville, N. and cached it in garages in South a Philadelphia. Lavner identified Benjamin R. Fogel of Philadelphia as the man who employed him. Lavner pleaded guilty to the conspiracy charge.

New Bed for Creek Sought by Surveyors Work is progressing on the plans of running the creek in Lee Park through the Lee Park Schoolyard, past the Lee Park Hose House and down through Post's Field into the river instead of in the city' as it is running now. 500 Books Donated To Public Library Representatives of Plymouth Junior Women's Civic Club yesterday announced 500 books have been donated to the community library and collections will be made again on Saturday, March 26. In an adventure strip, "Rattlesnake Gulch," the local man collaborates Thomas Curry the other story, "Fire," is his own effort. Mr. Kashuba gained state wide publicity five years ago while at the local high school when he drew a pen and ink sketch of President Franklin D. Roosevelt and was lauded highly for the accomplishby the Chief Executive who autographed the work. This picture donated to the school and adorns the high school office.

Three years ago he was employed with Max Fleicher, animators of "Popeye," and "Betty Boop," cartoons but was forced to resign due to poor health. Later he was employed with Gimble New York store commercial art department but for the last year has been doing free lance work. Arrested in F. W.
