Supporters Lose Fight On Vote Bill FRANKFORT (P) Supporters of a bill that would change the primary date to the first Saturday in June lost their effort Wednesday to get it out of the House Rules Committee. The bill, introduced early in the special session, has been lodged in the Rules Committee.

Rep. L. H. Nicholls (D. Greenup) made the motion to take it from committee and report it favorably.

The House voted 39-12 in favor of the motion, 12 short of the needed majority. Mr. Nicholls said the bill would permit more people to vote since Saturday is not a normal working day. The primary now is scheduled for the last Tuesday in May. Rep.

Luther Patrick Estill County) said: "We hear a lot about waste in government. This bill would save a day of state employees' work." Rep. Leonard Hislope Somerset) said it was a bill "for the little man and the rural folk." Rep. Paul Young Olmstead) said consideration of the bill would prolong the special session and "we shouldn't spend any more of the taxpayers' money." Democrats Rap Secrecy In Joseph Property Fight City Council's three I Democrats have declared that they will not attend any more "clandestine" meetings on the subject of redeveloping the central business district. Republicans countered, at a stormy session late Wednesday, that the Democrats were "playing politics" and were deliberately misrepresenting efforts to solve problems connected with the face-lifting of downtown Cincinnati. The hour-long debate was triggered by the presentation of the Democrats' policy statement on a series of issues including the controversial Block the propperty at the northwest corner of Fifth and Sycamore Streets. This is the area owned by George Joseph.

Navy Wednesday categorically denied a London newspaper report that a British submarine had penetrated the Navy's hunter-killer submarine defenses and surfaced within attacking distance of the New London, Navy base. A spokesman for Atlantic Fleet headquarters said the story in the Daily Mail was without foundation. The newspaper reported that the submarine HMS Orpheus first gave warning it would make the attempt and then carried it out. The Mall said the Orpheus told the U.

He said the wedding will take place Saturday afternoon at the Sands Hotel in Las Vegas, Nev. "It's the greatest present I ever had," the Cuban television star said. Mrs. Hirsch returned last night from Juarez, where she obtained a Mexican divorce from Clement Hirsch, millionaire sportsman and racing stable owner. Mr.

Arnaz said the wedding will be private, with. only his mother, Mrs. Hirsch's sister and a few close friends in attendance. Mr. Arnaz was formerly married to Lucille Ball.

Together they parleyed "I Love Lucy," once television's most popular show, into the vast Desilu television studio empire. They were divorced and Miss Ball has since married comic Gary Morton. Rome Halts Excavation In Catacombs ROME (UPI) Authorities have put a halt to work by a construction team that was digging up third Century Christian tombs with a steam shovel to put in the foundations of two apartment buildings. The Christian tombs or so called "Catacombs" were those named after St. Hippolytus, a thirdcentury martyr who died in 236.

The tombs are on the outskirts of Rome near the ancient Tiburtina Highway. A Roman construction company had a crew with a steam shovel digging up the area yesterday. The steam shovel was gouging out ground for the foundations of two small apartment buildings. Passersby noticed that the diggers were uncovering underground tunnels and cells that had the characteristic honeycomb construction of catacombs -the underground tombs that Christians used to bury their dead in and sometimes hid in themselves during the era of Roman persecution. The Municipal Department of Antiquities and Fine Arts as well as police were notified, and officials put an immediate halt to the work.

Authorities started an investigation Wednesday to determine how the construction firm got a permit to build on the site. Couple Has 65th Wedding Anniversary Mr. and Mrs. W. D.
