Memorials to Vista Care Hospice, 8135 Beechmont Cincinnati, OH. 45255. 5 Death Notices Obituaries Westwood nurse was well-liked Martha Guckenberger, 84, also homemaker, mom By Rebecca Billman The Cincinnati Enquirer Martha Jane Kersh Guckenberger brought to her marriage the values and skills acquired while growing up on a farm in northwestern Ohio. That meant she canned tomatoes and peaches in the summer, made her own dresses and crocheted her doilies. Her table was always full of hearty and delicious dishes, and her family remembers fondly her mock turtle soup.

Mrs. Guckenberger, a registered nurse and homemaker, died Wednesday from complications of pneumonia at Mercy Franciscan Hospital Western Hills. The Westwood resident was 84. from the Christ Hospital School of Nursing in 1938, she married G. Carl Guckenberger of Westwood.

They lived in an apartment near Christ Hospital, where Mrs. Guckenberger worked, before moving to Westwood. That's when she left her nursing career to become a homemaker and, soon after, a full-time mom. "Her family was her pride and joy," her husband said. She played piano and filled their home with the flower arrangements she created.

Her son remembers her as a strict mother with a strong work ethic. After her children were grown, she returned to nursing, becoming a charge nurse in the medical wing of Scarlet Oaks Retirement Community in Clifton. "She was really well-liked (and) a great nurse," her son said. She worked at the nursing home for about eight years, in the 1970s and '80s. Mrs.

Guckenberger was a member of Westwood United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, the Westwood Woman's Club and the Cincinnati Woman's Club. In addition to her husband and son, survivors include: two other sons, Rev. Dale Edward Guckenberger of LaPorte, and John David Guckenberger of Vorhees, a daughter, Jane Elizabeth Guckenberger Dobbins of Scottsburg, a sister, B. After graduating Senate confirms Bunning By Derrick DePledge Mrs.

"He is competent and qualified and will do an outstanding job as a federal judge for Kentucky." Sen. Mitch McConnell, who backed Mr.

Bunning's nomination, said the state is "getting a great federal The Senate confirmed Mr. Bunning, 35, unanimously and without debate.
