Carson's loss felt on Wall St. NEW YORK (UPI) The stock market turned mixed Friday afternoon in sluggish trading. There was little news in the background to influence traders in either direction. The Dow Jones industrial average, down 3 points at midday, was ahead 1.56 points to 856.80 around 2 p.m. CST.

It lost 5.02 points Thursday. The Dow has fallen about 23 points since reaching its 1979 high of 878.72 April 10. Declines led advances, 735 to 563, among the 1,816 issues crossing the New York Stock Exchange tape. The five-hour NYSE turnover amounted to about 23,000,000 shares, compared with 25,520,000 traded during the corresponding period Thursday. Prices were mixed in moderate trad- New York Stock Exchange 10:30 a.m.

Benefit disco dance planned A benefit disco dance contest, "Wednesday Night Fever," will be presented in behalf of the American Cancer Society, Saline County Division, Wednesday, April 25 at the Good Earth.

The dance is open to Good Earth members and guests. Donations for the ACS will be accepted. Dancing for the competitors dancers will begin between 7 and 8 p.m. The judged dancing of 10 to 15 sponsored couples will begin at 10, according to David and Nancy Olhausen, coordinators for the contest. Prizes will be given to the judged couples.

First prize will be a trip to the Houston, Tex. Astrodome provided by a travel firm. Salina businesses have signed to sponsor the competing dancers. Other companies or individuals wishing to sponsor dancers can call the Good Earth or Mr. and Mrs.

Olhausen. An auction of clothing donated by Salina merchants also will be held. Bell farmland auction earns $368,768 SOLOMON The Bell estate, a 470-. acre family-owned farm near Solomon, was sold for $368,768 at a Thursday auction. The land owned by eight heirs of Frank Bell, who died two years ago was purchased by two adjacent farmers, Clyde White and Ralph Mattison.

The five-acre homestead site was purchased by Steve Holmgren, Salina, for $26,000. White purchased 275 acres and Mattison bought the remaining 188 acres. Both men paid $740 an acre for the clay loam cropland. The sale was handled by Riordan Auction Company, Solomon. Dennis Riordan was auctioneer.

Freak mishap hurts youth LINDSBORG (HNS) A 14-year-old Wichita boy was injured Thursday afternoon when he fell out of a hearse on I- 135 four miles east of Lindsborg. Kip Debour, was treated for multiple abrasions at McPherson Memorial Hospital then transferred to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita where he was reported in fair condition. Debour was the passenger in a four- door Cadillac hearse driven by Lola A. Hamilton, 39, Valley Center, according to the Highway Patrol. Debour thought the sidedoor of the vehicle was ajar and apparently opened the door to shut it again when the wind sucked him out of the vehicle, a Highway Patrolman said.

Severel youths in the vehicle were not hurt. Hobbies clubs ELLSWORTH Ellsworth Cowtown Square Dancers have scheduled a 2 to 5 p.m. "Cowtown Jamboree" Sunday at the Ellsworth Grade School. Jim Boo- ten'will be the caller. DENVER, Police are still seeking clues to the identity of the slayer of Emma Jean Jenefor, 25, former Salina, college student.

She was found strangled to death March 23 at her home in Denver. Miss Jenefor was born Oct. 2,1953, in Tulsa, Okla. She graduated from Brown Mackie College, Salina, as a legal secretary and moved to Denver in 1973. She was an employee of Warner Bros.

Studio, Denver, at the time of her death. Surviving are her mother, Mrs. Lula Mae Meckling, 203 N. Oakdale, Salina; four sisters, Mrs. Charles E.

DALE D. WALKER BELOIT The funeral for Dale D. Walker, 62, Beloit, will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the McDonald Funeral Home, Beloit, the Rev. Edward Redfield officiating.

Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery. Mr. Walker died Wednesday in Mitchell County Hospital. He was born Aug. 30, 1916, on a farm south of Beloit.

Mr. Walker, a farmer and stockman, lived in the Beloit area all his life. He was a member of Concordia Moose Lodge and was a trustee of Salt Creek Township. Surviving are five brothers, Horace, Kenneth, Harry, Wayne and Raymond, all of Beloit. MRS.

ALFRED HOSE OSBORNE The funeral for Mrs. LaVerne B. Hose, 75, Osborne, will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the United Methodist Church, Osborne, the Rev. Vern Snider officiating.

Burial will be in Osborne Cemetery. Mrs. Hose died Friday at Osborne County Memorial Hospital. She was born Dec. 27, 1903.

She was a longtime Osborne resident. Her husband, Alfred, died in 1977. Surviving are a brother, Asa Arnold, Ferris, Calif. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Clark Funeral Home, Osborne.

MRS. JAMES PITTS MINNEAPOLIS The funeral for Mrs. Grace M. Pitts, 86, a longtime Culver resident, will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the Shields Funeral Home, Minneapolis, the Rev.

Charles Haines, Tescott, and the Rev. Mr. Base, Hutchinson, officiating. Mrs. Pitts died Thursday at Asbury Hospital, Salina.

She was born June 14, 1892, at Wilson. She was a member of the Culver United Methodist Church. Her husband, James, died in 1973. Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Graee Bell, Tescott; Mrs.

Leta Norris, 838 Custer, Salina; Mrs. Marjorie Schur, Colorado Springs, and Mrs. Dorothy M. Schur, Culver; a son, Dr. Paul B.

Langerman, Lindsborg, and four grandchildren. Burial will be in Crown Point Cemetery northwest of Salina. The family suggests memorials to the Culver Methodist Church. GUY SUMMEARLL MINNEAPOLIS The funeral for Guy Summearll, 86, Minneapolis, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Shields Funeral Home, Minneapolis, the Rev.

Larre Eschelman officiating. Mr. Summearll died Thursday at St. John's Hospital, Salina. He was born April 16, 1893, at Minneapolis and was a lifelong resident of the community.

He was a retired farmer. Surviving are his wife, Ethel, a resident of a Stockton nursing home; a son, Ivan, Plainville; two sisters, Mrs. Nellie Burger, Delphos, and Mrs. Faye Atwell, Minneapolis, and five grandchildren. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Minneapolis.

Friends may call at the funeral home. EARLE M. BARTLEY ABILENE The funeral for Earle M. Bartley, 75, Abilene, will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Martin Funeral Home, Abilene, Ihe Rev.

Thomas Robson officiating. Burial will be in the Abilene Cemetery. Mr. Bartley was born Aug. 2, 1903, at Delphos.

He died Thursday at the Highland Personal Care Home, Abilene. He was a retired farmer and a member of the Abilene United Presbyterian Church. Mr. Bartley and his wife, Margaret, were the developers of Bartley Heights, a residential area north of Salina on U.S. 81.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are a brother, B.A. Bartley, Miltonvale; a grandson and a great-grandson. The family suggests memorials to the church or to the charity of the donor's chofce. Friends may call at the funeral home. MRS.

WILLIAM KOETKEMEYER WILSON The funeral for Mrs. j. Lena Koetkemeyer, 83, Wilson, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Immanuel Lu- theran Church, Wilson, Pastor Terry Smith officiating. Burial will be in the '2- Wilson City Cemetery.

Mrs. Koetkemeyer died Wednesday at the Central Kansas Medical Center 55 at Great Bend. She was born June 9, 1895, in Russell County, Kan. She was a and had lived most of her life at Wilson. Mrs.

Koetkemeyer was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church. Surviving are three sons, Lloyd, Wichita; Vernon, Dorrance, and Bernard, Wilson; two daughters, Mrs. Mildred Frederick, Wilson, and Mrs. Doris Goad, Great Bend; a sister, Mrs. Hen- rietta Stumpff, Bend, 10 grandchildren and 11 great- grandchildren.

UMSCHIED MANHATTAN The funeral for Robert D. Umschied, 52, Manhattan, was at 10 a.m. Thursday at Seven Dolors Catholic Church, Manhattan. Mr. Umschied died Monday evening at St.

Mary Hospital. He was born May 4,1926, in Flush and was a lifetime resi-, dent of the Manhattan area. Mr. Umschied, owner of Umschied Trenching Company, was a member of the Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus and the Elks Lodge. Surviving are his wife, Winifred, of the home; two sons, Roger, Manhattan, and Robert, of the home; six daughters, Mary Umschied, Chicago, Mrs.

Roseann Ballas, Tampa, Roberta Hensley, Topeka; Mrs. Ramona Laue, Lake Elbow; Mrs. Rebecca Lawson, Sharon Springs, and Rita Umschied, of the home; four brothers, Paul, Wamego; Richard, Junction City; Bernard, Bartleville, and Floyd, Leaven worth; two sisters, Mrs. Leona O'Brien, 1024 E. Iron, Salina, and Mrs.

Frank Simmer, Wamego, and one grandchild. Cowan-Edwards-Yorgensen Funeral Home was in charge of arrangment. The family suggests memorials to Luckey High School. MRS. SANDRA MEULI ABILENE A memorial service for Mrs.

Sandra Meuli, 43, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Danner Funeral Home, Abilene, the Rev. Don Rothfuss officiating. Mrs. Meuli, who was born Aug; 3, 1936, in Salina, was reported missing last August after she failed to appear for work.

On April 13, some young boys discovered a skull in a wooded area of Topeka within 20 yards of Interstate 70. Additional remains were discovered several days later, as well as clothing and identification papers. A forensic dentist identified the victim as Mrs. Meuli. Capt.

Don Demore, of the Topeka Police Department, said Friday the case' had not been officially ruled a homicide, but "everything leads that way." Authorities have no definite suspects in the case, he added. Mrs. Meuli was reared in Abilene.and lived here until 1968, when she moved to Topeka. She was an underwriter for Dennis Payne Insurance Agency and a member of the Fairlawn Heights Wesleyan Church, both at Topeka. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs.

Kim Billinger, Junction City, and Kristy Meuli, Abilene; three sons, Kerry, Kirk and Kory, all of Abilene; the father and stepmother, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Cain, Abilene; three brothers, Roy Cain, Downey, Kenneth Cain, Abilene, and Paul Cain, Kansas City; a sister, Mrs. Gladys Reynolds, Hutchinson, and a stepsister, Mrs. Karen Brewster, Anaheim, Calif.

The family suggests memorials to the Fairlawn Heights Church. RONALD LEE TUCKER The funeral for Ronald Lee Tucker, 26, 614 1 2 s. 5th, will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the First Baptist Church, Durham. Burial will be in the Anthony Cemetery at 5:30 p.m.

Mr. Tucker, a crew chief at Rickel Manufacturing, was found dead Thursday evening in the cab of his truck parked at his home. Death is believed due to natural causes. An autopsy was performed. Mr.

Tucker was born Nov. 10,1952, at Anthony and had been a Rickel employee for several years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Durham. Surviving are his mother, Mrs. Shirley Tucker, Tampa; a sister, Janet, Wichita, and grandmothers Mrs.
