cough STonv "Play It Cool," is now appearing on cable's MTV, the 24-hour rock-video channel which is the equivalent of the big leagues in this new field. In fact, a song which plays on MTV is almost assured of high record sales. Channel 19 will follow this first program with a national one, "America's Top 10 Video Awards" (8:30 p.m.). Hosted by Casey Kasem, this hour-long program will present awards for the best videos in the categories of rock, country and soul. Winners were chosen by a panel of judges from several music-related industries.

The winning works will be videos which have already received national play. In the "Best Video" category, the nominees are: "Centerfold" (J. Geils Band); "Only the Lonely" (The Motels); "Young Turks" (Rod Stewart); "Rosanna" (Toto); "Who Can It Be Now" (Men at Work). The final half hour of this TV-rock special p.m.) will be filled by Channel 19's "Video Project Two," which was broadcast in 1982. This also was produced in conjunction with WEBN's Album Project by the same Emmy-winning people who put the first "Video Project" together, Jim Sweeney and Karon Ag-hotte-Rice.

Works performed here include: "One More Highway" by the Michael Denton Group; "Tropical Fantasy" by Robert Kishore; "Another Man's Cross" by the Carp Brothers; "I Need Money" by The Young Invaders. When you think about it, it's a wonder it took all the way until the 1980s for someone to discover that rock music would take on a whole new dimension and popularity when pictures are added to the music. After all, the combination of sight and sound which makes up the live concert has always been an enormous money-maker. The "video" the recording of a song on videotape for showing on television is that next step, the record with accompanying videotape pictures of the artists performing. This Wednesday, Channel 19, which has been the local leader in the video-rock field, celebrates the new medium with two hours of video-rock programming with "Video Music Night." The picture on the cover, of a Cincinnati skyline after a nuclear blast, is taken from one of those programs Project and it's a sample of the usually strange textures rock music takes on when someone decides to put pictures with it.

The evening begins with "Video Project One" (8 p.m.), which was first broadcast in 1981 and which received five regional Emmy Awards for its innovative techniques. The program utilizes music from WEBN-FM's annual Album Project and features some of the local artists whose music appeared on 198 l's Album Project Six.
