1 a 4 Mt. Market Dips During Low Volume Meet NEW YORK, Feb. 17 (P)-The blizzard over the Eastern United States may have had something to do with the stock market declining irregularly today in the quietest and narrowest trading of the year. Turnover dropped to 1,700,000 shares compared with 2.070,000 on Friday and was the smallest since November 11 when 1,540,000 shares changed hands in Veterans Day trading. The 1076 issues traded made today's market the narrowest since 1055 were traded March 8, 1956.

Some familiar faces among professional traders and the brokerage fraternity were missing from their usual Wall Street haunts and presumably this condition existed elsewhere. Market analysts said that uncertainty over the immediate outlook besides the snow was another factor which kept many investors on the sidelines The market was lower at the start, became irregular at mid-day, then slipped gradually until the close when prices were at about their lows. A feature was profit-taking which hit Lorillard, wiping out its substantial early gain and putting it down This What Stocks Did Stocks: 1,700,000 shares Bonds: $5,030,000 Mon. Fri.
