District Attorney Wants Ayala Returned To Texas Bexar County (Texas) District Attorney Sam Millsap said in San Antonio that he would attempt to have boxer Tony Ayala 19, quickly returned from New Jersey for a hearing to determine if his probation should be revoked. Millsap said he would file a motion to revoke Ayala's probated sentence and send him to prison in Texas for 10 years. The probation was assessed for Ayala's admitted attack on an 18-year-old girl in San Antonio on Dec. 23, 1978.

On New Year's Day, Ayala was arrested in West Paterson, N.J., on charges of burglary, assault sexual assault of a woman. He was jailed in New Jersey in lieu of $50,000 bond. Hearing To Investigate Possible Race Fixing Three jockeys face possible suspension today when a West Virginia Racing Commission board conducts a hearing into "questionable" betting patterns during a race at Waterford Park in Chester, W.Va., last month. Robert Wilkerson, chief steward at the Northern Panhandle race track, said the investigation is focusing on the seventh race of Dec. 18, when four winning tickets were purchased for a trifecta in which three long shots finished 1-2-3.

The jockeys, James Thompson, John Rodriguez and Russell Applebee, and agent Elmer Sensabaugh were banned from the track by Waterford officials after an initial investigation, Wilkerson said. West Virginia Center Says He's Leaving Team West Virginia, which has experienced trouble at center this season, received bad news when backup center Devon Howe announced he was leaving the team. "I am planning to enter graduate school after obtaining my bachelor's degree, so I thought it'd be a good idea to devote more time to academics," said the 6- foot-11 junior who played in five of West Virginia's first 10 games, averaging 1.8 points a contest and pulling down 10 rebounds. Vandeweghe, Clarke Players Of The Week Forward Kiki Vandeweghe of the Denver Nuggets, who averaged more than 35 points in five games last week, has been named National Basketball Player of the Week. The 6-foot-7 Vandeweghe, who moved up to fifth in the league in scoring with an average of 24.2 points per game, capped his week with a 49-point performance in Denver's 127-125 victory over Phoenix Saturday night.

Clarke, 33, is the Flyers' top scorer with 14 goals and 38 assists and is tied for seventh place among the league's scorers. HBPA Officers Resign Citing Differences Ed Flint, national president of the Horsemen's Benevolent and Protective Association, said that disagreement over the group's operation led to the recent resignations of three fellow officers. Board chairman William Kellman and general counsel Edward S. "Ned" Bonnie submitted their resignations during the weekend, citing "philosophical differences" with Flint.

Tony Chamblin, national HBPA secretary-treasurer, resigned two weeks ago, saying he wanted to pursue other activities. "I think there was a basic difference in philosophy on how the organization should be run," said Flint, a Louisville resident and also president of the Kentucky Division of the HBPA. "Mr. Bonnie and Chamblin were paid employees of the organization. The membership philosophy is changing in that the organization should be run by elected members (rather) than by paid employees."
