MORRIS, EA 7121, JE 2510 evenings, KOPF KOPF. A proximate Alms 80- sold: Bid. Ask. are produced or distributed by the eight companies. He added that the "monopolistic powers exercised by these concerns has a tendency to drive independent theaters out business" and that independent theaters are to such "oppressive" discriminations as block-booking, high rentals and "preferred playing times." Arnold alleged that the corporations, in acquiring theaters and chains, have "not occupied the same territory" and that "indeed, there appears to be a virtual division of territory." He said there were enough independently owned theaters to furnish competition" for the they are denied chaubstantial "equal access to the films" distributed by the eight concerns.

"The department has concluded, after long and careful study, that free competition in the industry ought to be restored and that the most direct course to that end is to divorce the business of production and distribution from that of exhibition," he said. Officials said that the defendants have 20 days to answer complaint after they are subpoenaed. This may delay actual trial of the case and they indicated they may seek a temporary injunction to strain the defendants from continuing the alleged practices until final determination of the case. Unperturbed, Movie Czar Will tonight a declared producers, wholesale distributors and leading exhibitors "welcome the prospect of a comprehensive, fair and conclusive endeavor" to clarify the application of existing laws to trade customs "inherent" in the industry. the Justice Department bouquet, Hayes in A statement said: "The entire matter is being approached in that spirit through which beneficial results can come to all concerned.

Courts clarify and explain the meaning of the law. Such a suit AS this can do just that." Vital Statistics BIRTHS.
