accounts due from the La Sglle hotel The receiver Thurlow Es-sington proposed to allow merchandise creditors whose claims total $70000 to sleep in the hotel free until the claims are wiped out in authority in the state capital 4i Officials Absent In numerous wards throughout the participating parishes there was no voting because election officials failed to show up for duty Warrants for the arrest of a half dozen persons were issued during the afternoon at Franklinton on charges of destroying ballots and administration literature but no arrests were made immediately Senator Long directed the election from his hotel suite in New Orleans nearly one hundred miles outside the district The town of Plaquemine in Iberville parish folio wed tjie lead of Tangipahoa tonight fn arranging a public meeting to burn the senator effigy Placards borne through the town inviting attendance at the demonstration read- effigy now in person Late today citizens of Livingston parish assembled in Denham Springs and burned effigies of Senator Long Govemor Allen Chairman Lee Ponder of the Sixth district and State Representative Mike Sharp an administration supporter The effigy of the governor protesting citizens state admnistra tion forces under the direction of Senator Huey Long today succeeded in holding a congressional election in three fourths of the Sixth Louisiana district The election was only a formality for the printed ballot contained onl one name that of Mrs Bolivar Kemp Senator Long's choice for the vacant Sixth district congress seat She was designated as unopposed nominee" by administration forces which refused to hold a party primary Voting was very light throughout the participating area as a week of Violent citizen demonstrations against the administration maneuver was climaxed by sporadic raids on the polls by armed citizens who seized nd burned the ballot boxes JRrfiise4tVt One-fourth of the district did not vote at all as Tangipahoa Livingston and St Helen parishes routed the Long forces with a show of arms and displayed a district court injunction against the balloting which caused administration officials to announce that the election was in those three subdivisions Lee Ponder of Amite chairman of the Sixth district Democratic committee which nominated Mrs Kemp and Long's spokesman in the area said the election had been called off tn three parishes on account of the injunction issued there by Judge Nat Tycer but the administration election went forward in other near by pah lshes where similar injunctions were Supposed to be in force Apparently the only difference between the Tycer injunction and the other court orders was that Tycer swore in several hundred armed citizens as special deputies to enforce his decree whereagthe other judges did not Violence Breaks Out Election day violence broke out during the morning when armed citizens in West Feliciana and Washington parities marched on nine polling preemets found ballot
