In fact. If you have never tried Chinese food, a visit here for lunch or dinner can be quite an education. Owned and operated by Henry Chin and his family, the Wah Mee is now open for bigger and better things. For over 20 years many people may remember the Chin family from their former McMillan St. address.

It was a smaller restaurant specializing in authentic Chinese food and now and then some good conversation with Henry Chin himself. Wah Mee downtown is not much different as far as the personal relationship with customers go. But the size and decor are almost opposites of the old Wah Mee. Making such a drastic change in operating a business is not the easiest thing in the world to do, especially in the restaurant Industry. The Chin family has handled it well.

First, they brought seven new chefs from Hong Kong, all well trained and very familiar with Chinese cuisine. Second, they all worked hard at training new waiters, waitresses, busboys and others so that no customer leaves with a complaint about service. Of course, not everything works out right in the beginning. The liquor license had not been approved when they opened, so the bartender the Chin family brought to Cincinnati from California didn't have anything stronger than a soft drink to serve. The liquor license is now displayed in the lounge and cocktails are now available, with house drinks beverages at special prices.

But the food is the restaurant. Just a quick count of the entrees available on the menu is somewhere around fifty. And whether you like Chinese or American food, you will be happy with the selection. Duck, beef, pork, sea food, fowl, chop suey, chow mein, egg foo yung and, of course, rice varieties are all available. The lobster lovers in Greater Cincinnati should give their taste buds a try with Lobster A La Wah Mee.

Lobster A La Wah Mee Is lobster meat extracted from the shell and blended with minced pork, snow pea pods, black mushrooms, water chestnuts and bamboo shoots. It's different and it's Chinese. The soups are important In Chinese restaurants, and Wah Mee has four to offer. Won Ton, Egg Drop and Bean Cake soups are on the menu every day, with a special soup of the day. When you have a hunger for egg roll, you can visit the Chin family downtown Monday through Thursday, 11 a.m.

Of Course, you see a plate of Fortune Cookies plus a new pastry creation of the Wah Mee Kitchen, Soo Gaolk. The Wah Mee is in the Mableys Building directly across the street from Fountain Square.
