the the of of of of of of of of of TUESDAY, MAY 11, 2010 LOCAL NEWS THE ENQUIRER LIVES REMEMBERED Robert Scheidler wrote last letters Battling cancer, he left gifts By Eric Bradley MOUNT WASHINGTON Robert Scheidler lived life with verve after battling a brain tumor in his late 20s. Mr. Scheidler died Thursday at his Mount Washington home from a reoccurrence of the tumor, his family said. He was 46. When doctors diagnosed Mr.

Scheidler when he was 28, they said it was likely that the malignancy would reappear within 10 years, and that the Mr. Scheidler expected survival rate was below 2 percent. Still, Mr. Scheidler fought his illness, enduring brain surgery, years of chemotherapy and 30 radiation treatments, the maximum lifetime amount allowed. He emerged with the perspective of someone who had brushed against the fragility of life.

"His attitude, I would say, was, 'These are the cards I have been dealt, and I am going to carry on as best I can with them," said his sister Anne Scheidler McGraw of Hyde Park. In February, after 18 years, Mr. Scheidler's tumor was found to have reoccurred. There would be no second reprieve. Preferring to die at his home, his family honored Mr.

Scheidler's wish. A niece from Manhattan Beach, and his brother Tom Scheidler of Cary, N.C., traveled to Cincinnati to care for him around the clock. Colleagues from Hixson Architecture Engineering Interiors, where Mr. Scheidler worked as a structural engineer for more than 20 years, held business meetings at his home. Scott Mueller, Mr.

Scheidler's manager and coworker since his first day at Hixson, said Mr. Scheidler was a valued part of the company and a friend to all. "It leaves a void for everybody here," Mueller said. Unknown to his family, in his final days Mr. Scheidler prepared parting gifts and personal letters, each ending in part with a family saying: "Every crisis faced together makes the circle stronger." McGraw noted that her brother died with his family around him in support.

Born Jan. 18, 1964, in Finneytown to the late Donald and Madeleine Scheidler, he was a 1982 St. Xavier High School graduate. He earned a degree from the University of Cincinnati's College of Engineering in 1987. Heis also survived by his son, Andrew Scheidler of Anderson Township; sisters, Jan Cremons of Anderson Township and Donna Gruber of Amberley Village; brothers, Jim Scheidler of Anderson Township and John Scheidler of Anderson Township; and exwife, Kim Goldfuss Scheidler of Anderson Township.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. today at Guardian Angels Church, 6531 Beechmont Mount Washington. He will be buried at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Montgomery. Memorials can be sent to St. Xavier High School, 600 W.
