SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 4, 2006 LOCAL NEWS THE ENQUIRER Lives remembered William Patterson, 62, 'was trailblazer' in life Former executive mentored, helped many By Rebecca Goodman Enquirer staff writer AMBERLEY VILLAGE As an associate director of personnel for the Procter Gamble William Alonzo Patterson III traveled the world recruiting employees and setting up training programs that are still used by the company. Mr. Patterson, 62, was "considered a trailblazer for AfricanAmericans in management at said his daughter, Leslie Maria Tyler of Palmyra, NJ. He also didn't mind mentoring and motivating family members and friends and was free with his advice on career placement and advancement. He enjoyed tutoring people on how to "swim with the sharks," his daughter said.

Mr. Patterson, 62, who was called "Bill" by family and friends, died Wednesday of a heart attack at his condo in Pembroke Pines, Fla. He and his wife, Sharon Battle Patterson, also have a home in Amberley Village. "He was so giving," said his wife. In 1967, he married Sharon Battle, who was from Portsmouth. Ambitious and energetic, Mr. Patterson founded Tri-Vector Consultants Inc. in 1982. It later became known as Patterson and Associates.

Arthritis forced him to retire in 1999. He also suffered heart problems and had a pacemaker installed three years ago. Mr. Patterson was a member of Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity. Besides his daughter and wife, survivors include another daughter, Deanna Pearl Hazely of North Avondale; a sister, Pearl Vertrina Patterson Bethel of Miami; and five grandchildren.

Visitation is 9-11 a.m. Monday at Allen Temple AME Church, 7030 Reading Road in Bond Hill, followed by the funeral. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery. Mrs. Doyle met the pope in 1980, when she accompanied her husband, Edmund Darr Doyle, and Columbus philanthropist George Bentz to the Vatican. They presented the pontiff with a $3 million check from the Bentz Foundation to benefit the Society for the Propagation of Faith. The private meeting with John Paul II was one of the highlights of Mrs.

Doyle's life. A former journalism student at Ohio State University, she kept a diary of the trip. "The pope was an amazing man," she wrote. "You might think he would be on a throne waiting for us. But he came into his office where we were seated, and he made us feel like meeting us was a great experience for him, which made our meeting him all the more exhilarating and humbling." John Paul II gave Mrs.

In it, she instructed her family to take comfort in the life she shared with them and be joyful that she was with God. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Stephen Dixon, in 1996. In addition to her daughter and son, survivors include two other sons, Edmond Doyle, of Columbia Tusculum, and Brian Doyle, of Dublin, Ohio; 12 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. GREEN Lee (Leon born in 1917 in Cincinnati, OH. He passed away October 29, 2006 at the age of 89. Mr. Green served in World War Il. He was drafted into the Army in 1941, attended officer's school and was honorably discharged in 1946 as a Major. During his tour of duty supplying new airbases in South Dakota he met and married Bardie (Hazel) Green from Watertown, SD. After the war Mr.

Green began a successful 35 year long career in the shoe business working for companies such as Florsheim, Brown Shoe, Acme Boot, and Genesco. In 1982 Mr. Green and his wife, Bardie, retired to the Fort Myers, FL area where they lived and played golf happily for 22 years. His beloved wife of 52 years passed away in 1995. In 1998 he re-connected with Henrietta Franklin, a widow whom he had dated back in high school in Cincinnati.

Their relationship lasted five years and Mrs. Franklin passed away in 2003. He remained close to her children, Lynn and Steve. For the past two years, Lee was a resident at the St. Paul Senior Living facility, where he was warmly welcomed and had many wonderful friends.
